  • Publication number: 20030228192
Abstract: A revetment made wholly or predominantly from concrete, useful to line a stream bed, having upper and lower surfaces, and having upstream and downstream edges, has, for each upstream edge, an upstream bevel, which intersects the upper surface and which intersects said upstream edge. The revetment has an array of holes extending between the upper and lower surfaces. Each hole has a lateral wall flaring outwardly in a downstream direction from a circular mouth at the lower wall to an elongate mouth at the upper wall. Each upstream or downstream edge is stepped so as to define an upper or lower flange. In an assembly of such revetments, which may be connected to one another, as by cables, each of at least some of the upper flanges overlies one of the lower flanges.

  • Patent number: 6612776
Abstract: In the manufacture of an articulated, predominantly concrete mat, which comprises concrete blocks and a flexible geogrid embedded in such blocks and in which the flexible geogrid defines flexible members connecting such blocks to one another, an intermediate article being a concrete slab is cast, in which a flexible geogrid is embedded. The slab has relatively thinner portions, along which the slab is breakable to form such blocks, and relatively thicker portions, which become such blocks when the slab is broken along the relatively thinner portions. Preferably, the relatively thinner portions extend longitudinally and transversely, in a rectangular array, before the slab is broken along the relatively thinner portions.

  • Publication number: 20030146823
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and to an arrangement for evaluating in a defined space or area a delimited area (7) in which there is a degree of urgency greater than the degree of urgency in respect of the remainder of said space (1), wherein there is disposed within said space or area (1) a plurality of sensors which can evaluate the current or ongoing degree of urgency on the basis of one or more criteria. Selected sensors (2, 3, 4) shall be connected to computer equipment (50) which includes storage elements (52, 53, 54) adapted for storing current criteria-related values in a chosen time order, and wherein a calculating circuit (51) included in or connected to said computer equipment (50) is adapted for evaluation of a calculated degree of urgency on the basis of time-dependent changes in the evaluated current values, and determining and establishing the local orientation or geographic location of the delimited area through the medium of the calculating circuit.

  • Publication number: 20030082013
Abstract: For abating noise along a highway, along a railway, or along another noise-generating way, a wall having an anterior face and a posterior face comprises, across each face, concrete modules stacked in an upper tier, at least one intermediate tier, and a lower tier. Each module is plantable and has a batten. Across each face, the modules are spaced laterally from one another in courses, one course in each tier, so that modules of each course straddle modules of the next course above or below said course. In each of alternate ones of the tiers, a geogrid strip is deployed around the battens of the modules along the anterior face and around the battens of the modules along the posterior face, in a zig-zag pattern, so as to tie the modules along the anterior face to the modules along the posterior face.

  • Patent number: 6395171
Abstract: The strainer arrangement is adapted for straining a liquid from a mixing arrangement, such as a mixing tank, containing black liquor including solid particles of ash. The strainer arrangement comprises a strainer pipe with axial gaps defined therein for permitting a radial inflow of liquid into the strainer pipe. An axially movable shaft is disposed inside the strainer pipe and has cleaning pins attached thereto that extend into the gaps.

  • Patent number: 5900795
Abstract: A controllable inductor comprises at least a tubular core (13) a main winding (5) surrounding the core, a control winding (13) passing substantially axially through the core, a ground part (15) arranged inside the main winding and an element surrounding the core and adapted to carry the main winding wound outside thereof at a distance to the ground part while creating a voltage taking air gap between the main winding and this part. The main winding has a first end (10) thereof on high potential and the potential falls towards the second opposite end (11). The element carries the main winding at the first end (10) at a larger radial distance to the ground part than at the second end.

  • Patent number: 5820729
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for dissolving smelt chemicals from recovery boilers, a so-called soda smelt dissolver, and to a process for such dissolution using the device. The device is characterized in that it consists of at least two separate dissolving tanks (I, II), which are connected to each other near the bottom, via a connecting pipe (3), to allow free flow of liquid between them, and of devices for the separate supply to each tank of dissolving liquid and smelt chemicals in dependence on the measured and established chemical concentration in the solution in each of the tanks (I, II), wherein the outlets from the tanks (I, II) can be separately shut off and regulated. The process according to the invention involves using the device and switching over the functions of the different tanks.

  • Patent number: 5771817
Abstract: A recovery boiler for combusting spent liquor from cellulose cooking while at the same time recovering chemicals. The recovery boiler is constructed for so-called "rotafire" combustion and the speed of rotation of the secondary air has been increased by a constriction of the boiler being arranged at the tertiary air level. The invention also includes a process for using the boiler which is based on certain ports through which the secondary air is blown in being provided with air which is at a higher pressure than that at the other ports on the same level, thereby achieving a higher inflow velocity than from the other ports.

  • Patent number: 5749420
Abstract: A detector arrangement is included in a preventive safety system that can be used within a process in which loosely formed process material is produced in a first unit (1) and transported (3) to a receiving, second unit (2), wherein the treatment to which the material is subjected in said first unit is liable to produce one or more discrete particles which have a temperature sufficiently high to initiate fire and/or explosion within at least the second part or unit (2). The necessary transportation of the loose material between the first unit (1) and the second unit (2) is effected along a path which includes a stabilizing zone (7), a high temperature particle indicating zone (8), and an extinguishing zone (9), wherein the indicating zone includes one or more particle sensors (10).
