Abstract: A method in a network entity associates a unique identifier with an event, for example a television program. The method comprises the steps of receiving an original time reference allocated to the event, for example an original start time for the event, and generating a first identifier (event_ID) to identify the event, wherein the first identifier is based on a set of first identifiers (event_IDs) that have a predetermined repetition period. The method further comprises the step of generating a second identifier (program_ID) to identify the event, wherein the second identifier is unique over time and based on a function of the first identifier and the original time reference allocated to the event. Various embodiments describe how changes to the original time reference can be made, yet still allow the unique event identifier to be determined.

Abstract: There is provided a method of conveying information using a set of first identifiers, the set of first identifiers having a first number, M, of possible values for representing a first number, M, of first information items. The method comprises the steps of partitioning the set of first identifiers into a second number, N, of sub-partitions, wherein the second number, N, of sub-partitions represents the number of possible values required to represent a set of second information items. A sub-partition is used to transmit a second information item while also transmitting a first information item using a first identifier.

Abstract: It is presented a method for synchronising playing of streaming content between an initiating streaming client and a following streaming client. The method is performed by the initiating streaming client and comprises the steps of: initiating streaming of a media stream of the streaming content to the initiating streaming client; determining a session start time after which the media stream is to be started to be played by any client having access to the session start time; and sending a streaming info message for distribution to the following streaming client, the streaming info message comprising an identifier of the streaming content and the session start time.

Abstract: Systems and methods provide for transmitting updates in an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) environment towards a client. The method includes: maintaining the updates in a data hierarchy of updates; receiving a first message identifying a client; retrieving information associated with the client; determining which updates are relevant to the client by matching the information associated with the client to the data hierarchy of updates; and transmitting a second message toward the client with information associated with the determined updates.
