Patent number: 11704380Abstract: Technologies are provided to supply image assets for presentation at a client device. Some embodiments include a computing device that can determine that multiple image assets to be presented in a user interface are unavailable within a non-volatile storage device of the computing device. The computing device can then generate a request for an image sprite containing the multiple image assets, and can send the request to a content source platform. The request identifies the multiple image assets. The computing device can receive, from the content source platform, the image sprite and metadata corresponding to the image sprite. The metadata defines attributes of the multiple image assets. The computing device can store the metadata in the non-volatile storage device, and can extract, using the metadata, the multiple image assets from the image sprite. The computing device can present the multiple assets during presentation of the user interface.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2020Date of Patent: July 18, 2023Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Erin Matthew Brasch

Patent number: 11317155Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for providing a virtual channel for presentation. The techniques include preparing a virtual channel for presenting a plurality of video files (e.g., video-on-demand (VOD) contents) in a particular order. The virtual channel may also be associated with a live point that indicates a portion of a particular video file of the plurality of video files that is streaming at a global clock time. The virtual channel may be provided within a virtual video stream according to the global clock time. The techniques further include receiving a request from a user device for the virtual channel at the global clock time, and then providing the virtual video stream to the user device for presentation of the particular video file at the live point of the particular video file scheduled for streaming at the global clock time.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2020Date of Patent: April 26, 2022Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Erin Matthew Brasch, Maureen G. Patent number: 10728593Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for facilitating uninterrupted playback of video streams using lower quality cached files. A video file corresponding to an entirety of a video content feature encoded at a first quality may be obtained from another client on a local network. A video stream corresponding to the video content feature encoded at a second quality higher than the first quality is then obtained. The video stream is rendered for playback on a display. In response to detecting an unavailability of the video stream at a particular time in the video content feature, the video file is rendered for playback on the display in place of the video stream and commences at the particular time in the video content feature. The video file may then be sent to yet another client on the local network.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2018Date of Patent: July 28, 2020Assignee: AMAZON TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Christopher Shingee Park, Erin Matthew Brasch
