    Abstract: A firearm such as a semiautomatic rifle having a gas cylinder which receives gas under pressure upon firing of a round in order to move a gas piston which operates components of the firearm. A relief valve structure communicates with the interior of the gas cylinder for automatically responding by inertia to recoil of the firearm in order to relieve excess gas pressure in the cylinder.
