  • Patent number: 4084401
Abstract: A digital LED display watch is provided with 1) an operating button to select and control display of data in the normal operating mode, and 2) a recessed button to select separately for possible setting each unit of horological data except seconds. The display of the data selected for possible setting is flashed, and the actual advancing is controlled by the operating button. The data displayed in the normal mode is timed hours-minutes, separated by a colon, with seconds after hours-minutes if the operating button is held down, and month-date separated by a dash if the operating button is pushed twice. In the setting mode, data not being set (but otherwise associated in the display with data that is) is blanked, but the colon or dash is retained. During setting of hours the dash is added to the colon during the first 12 hours of each day to indicate AM. An optional recessed button is provided to manually select the duty cycle of the LED display and thus alter apparent brightness and power consumed.

  • Patent number: 4009566
Abstract: A digital watch display system with a dual display element is provided, a liquid crystal for use in daylight, or bright light, and a light emitting diode for use in dim light. The light emitting diode display causes an over drain on the battery used for the watch. In order to minimize this, instead of the usual four digit LED display, two for hours and two for minutes, only two LED display digits are used and are alternately turned on to display hours and minutes.

  • Patent number: 3991552
Abstract: A digital watch system includes a crystal controlled oscillator with frequency division which controls a set of counters, each counter carrying coded horological data. Selected counter set data is multiplexed into a seven segment decoder. The decoder output is demultiplexed into memories, one for each of the segments in each of the display digits. The memories control segment drivers for the liquid crystal digital displays.

  • Patent number: 3984973
Abstract: A digital watch system with a dual display demultiplexer, a liquid crystal display for use in daylight or bright light and a light emitting diode display for use in dim light. The digital watch system includes a crystal oscillator with frequency division which controls a set of counters, each counter carrying coded horological data. Selected counter data is multiplexed into a seven segment decoder which is then demultiplexed into memories, one for each of the segments in each of the liquid crystal display digits. These memories then control segment drivers for the liquid crystal digital displays. In parallel with the liquid crystal demultipliexer, the seven segment decoder outputs operate segment and digit drivers which drive light emitting diodes as a second display for the digital watch.
