  • Patent number: 4787787
Abstract: The invention provides work piece support apparatus for supporting resilient sheet material during a machining operation, e.g., routing, in which the support apparatus includes hydrostatic clamping means comprising perforated support pads positioned each side of the resilient material and connected to a fluid supply. By this arrangement a fluid layer under relatively high pressure is interposed between each pad and the adjacent region of sheet material which is thus fluid pressure supported in the immediate vicinity of the routing tool throughout the machining process. The invention beneficially provides a routing machine including the work piece support apparatus in which the work piece is positioned in a generally vertical plane and the routing tool is mounted about a generally horizontal axis.

  • Patent number: 4469030
Abstract: A tubular member 10 has another tubular member 12 slidable therein, and an insert 20 for locating the member 12 inside the member 10. A flange 14 on the member 12 carries a work top 16 of a work bench. The insert 20 prevents movement of the lower end of the member 12 in relation to the member 10, and so makes the whole structure rigid. The member 12 supports equipment such as a light 24.

  • Patent number: 4378173
Abstract: A structural joint suitable for a frame member for furniture, e.g. a leg for a work bench, comprises two tubular members 10, 11 slidable one inside the other. Each member 10, 11 has a longitudinal slot 13 through which a wing nut 16 is passable. The members are secured by engaging a screw 17 in the nut 16 which is so long that it cannot fully rotate inside the inner member 11. Preferably, the slot 13 has enlarged portions 14 which alone can pass a boss of the nut 16.
