    Abstract: A fishing device is disclosed. The device includes a float for maintaining a hook at a distance below the surface of a body of water and a contractile assembly, secured between the float and the hook for contracting a response to a hook strike by a fish, to forcefully displace the hook toward the float, thereby setting the hook. Alternatively, the device includes a fishing lure body and a contractile assembly for contracting, in response to a hook strike by a fish, into the lure body, thereby setting the hook.
