  • Publication number: 20070029142
Abstract: A ball screw and nut assembly includes a ball screw component having a threaded outer surface and a ball nut component having a bore in which the ball screw component is received. The ball nut component includes a threaded inner surface that cooperates with the threaded outer surface of the ball screw component to achieve axial movement of the ball nut component between a fully retracted position and a fully extended position as the ball screw rotates relative to the ball nut. A positive stop prevents rotation of the ball screw component relative to the ball nut component at an axial position between the fully retracted position and the fully extended position as the ball nut component is retracted.

  • Publication number: 20060151260
Abstract: A brake apparatus is provided and includes a housing having a bore extending therethrough and an axial opening therein, a piston closely and slidably received within the bore, a driving member having a flange thereon, the driving member extending through the axial opening to operatively connected the piston to an electric motor, wherein rotation of the driving member is translated into axial movement of the piston, and a bearing coaxially received over the driving member and positioned between the flange and the housing, wherein the bearing facilitates rotation of the driving member relative to the housing and resists axial movement of the driving member relative to the housing.

  • Publication number: 20060053919
Abstract: A method for making a ball-nut includes cutting a 360-degree closed-loop surface groove in the inner-circumferential wall portion of a ball-nut body using a whirling-type internal-diameter cutting machine. The closed-loop surface groove surrounds the longitudinal axis of the wall portion, is adapted for receiving a plurality of ball bearings, includes a helical-grooved portion substantially coaxially aligned with the longitudinal axis, and includes a crossover-grooved portion. A method for making a ball-screw includes cutting at least one 360-degree closed-loop surface groove in the outer-circumferential wall portion of a ball-screw body using a whirling-type external-diameter cutting machine. The closed-loop surface groove surrounds the longitudinal axis of the wall portion, is adapted for receiving a plurality of ball bearings, includes a helical-grooved portion substantially coaxially aligned with the longitudinal axis, and includes a cross-under-grooved portion.

  • Publication number: 20050034936
Abstract: An electric brake caliper includes a ball screw apparatus having a cup-shaped ball screw including an annular cylindrical sidewall disposed about a rotational axis and closed at one axial end thereof by an end wall joined around an entire periphery thereof integrally with the sidewall. The end wall is adapted to form a carrier for operatively supporting at least one planetary gear. The ball screw apparatus also includes a ball screw nut operatively engaged with the ball screw. The annular cylindrical sidewall of the ball screw also defines an axial length of the ball screw and a ball track extending about the sidewall along the axial length of the ball screw from starting point that is adjacent to, but axially spaced from, the closed end of the ball screw. The ball track further includes a ball return track.
