  • Patent number: 5339717
Abstract: To obtain a smaller piano having a larger piano sound, there is constructed a piano having a modified construction in reference to its sounding board and the means for mounting it. Instead of being provided with the usual eight to ten strengthening ribs on its back side and having all of its four edges entirely secured to the piano case, the sounding board in the modified construction of the invention is mounted so that it has, in effect, a greater opportunity to float, in that it has at least one opposed pair of edges which are at least in major part, if not entirely, unconfined, and there are used to maintain its crown some lesser number, such as three or only one, of strengthening ribs, major reliance for maintaining the crown being placed upon a centrally situated wood or metal wedge member.

  • Patent number: 4852948
Abstract: A traction device designed for attachment and support by a spoke of a vehicle wheel. The traction device includes a clamping arm that is forced by a threaded fastener to grip an individual spoke. Extending from the clamping arm is a traction arm having a traction finger that extends transversely to the treadwall portion of the tire.

  • Patent number: 4421217
Abstract: A clutch is arranged to drivingly connect and disconnect the crankshaft members of two internal combustion engines. One engine which is preferably the smaller of the two engines is operated to propel a vehicle by delivering torque through a transmission to a differential and then to the wheels. When to meet the demand for increased power requirements, the clutch is engaged to form a tandem arrangement of engines. Torque is supplied by both engines with the second and larger engine transmitting torque through the crankshaft of the first engine. Clutch members are moved into and out of engagement according to one embodiment and according to a second embodiment, the second and larger engine is moved to force a clutch member into a driving relationship.

  • Patent number: 4278122
Abstract: A traction device includes traction arms each having a traction finger extending transversely to the treadwall portion of a tire while supported by a shank portion extending to a carrier plate. Pivotal support arms on the carrier plate engage the hub section of the wheel rim by projecting through openings through spoke portions of the rim. The free ends of the support arms engage a hub with a threaded opening received on a threaded shaft that is moved into contact with the axle member of the vehicle and supported by the carrier plate.

  • Patent number: 4096779
Abstract: Rectangularly-shaped wooden anchors are adhered by glue onto face surfaces of a wippen and a jack in a piano action. Each has a central annular opening through which a looped portion of a string extends for connection to a spring used to impose a spring force upon a repetition lever and upon a jack. Each anchor, made of wood, has a thickness of 0.12 inch or less and includes a slot extending to an edge to adjustably receive one terminal end of the string to provide the desired length to the loop in the string.
