  • Patent number: 4648471
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a borehole tool, which tool has been conveyed into the borehole on production tubing. Apparatus includes a downhole control module connected to the tool for actuating and/or monitoring various subassemblies and/or events within the borehole. A communications link between the control module and the surface of the borehole is achieved with a wireline which has been terminated in a manner permitting electrical connection between the wireline and the control module to be made and broken in the downhole environment. Invention therefore combines the mechanical advantages of the rigid tubing for conveying the tool with the communication advantages of the wireline.

  • Patent number: 4561356
Abstract: A perforating gun having a plurality of shaped charges to be detonated by a primacord positioned adjacent thereto, which primacord is to be actuated by a detonator positioned in detonating proximity to the primacord. The gun of the present invention mounts the primacord and/or detonator within the gun in a manner affording the relative movement therebetween to a position where the primacord and the detonator are non-aligned so as to safe-arm the gun. The relative movement between the primacord and the detonator can be accomplished through the gun carrier so as to simplify the detonation system and minimize any lengthening of the gun required to accomplish the safe-arming.

  • Patent number: 4527636
Abstract: A method and system for selecting and arming each of a plurality of firing modules in a single-line selective perforating system is disclosed. A single firing line connects each firing module one at a time in a sequence to a control unit to receive power and control signals therefrom. Each module generates internally a module active time interval in response to being connected to the firing line power. Each time interval has a first portion during which the module generates an identification pulse to the control unit to uniquely identify that a particular module has been connected to the firing line, and a second portion during which the module is enabled to receive a selection pulse from the control unit to terminate further sequencing of the modules to locate the module to be selected. The next module to receive power from the control unit is connected to the firing line by a pass-through switch in the last connected module at the end of its active time interval if that module was not selected.
