  • Patent number: 4703882
Abstract: A riveting press wherein the female component of a composite button, knob or a like article of hardware is introduced between the jaws of first tongs below a sheet of textile material whose marked side faces upwardly, and wherein the male component of the article is introduced between the jaws of second tongs at a level above the sheet. The first tongs deposit the female component on a stationary anvil while the second tongs descend toward the upper side of the sheet to place the male component into the path of movement of a descending ram which causes a deformable part of the male component to penetrate through the sheet and to be deformed into permanent engagement with the female component by a centering stud which is provided on the anvil. The mechanism which moves the first tongs up and down derives motion from the mechanism which moves the second tongs and the ram.

  • Patent number: 4659001
Abstract: A riveting press wherein a vertically movable downwardly yieldable platform supports a selected portion of a textile workpiece between a passive lower tool and a vertically rciprocable upper tool. The upper tool is surrounded by a set of two or more radially outwardly movable and vertically reciprocable grippers having serrated undersides which are moved downwardly and into engagement with the upper side of the workpiece on the platform before the upper tool descends to affix a first component of an article of hardware to the workpiece simultaneously with the application of a second component of such article to the first component and to the workpiece. One such component is supported by the lower tool and the other component is releasably held in sockets of the grippers below the upper tool.

  • Patent number: 4596349
Abstract: Male or female annular components of fasteners are applied to articles of clothing in a machine wherein the lower tool of a pair of confronting tools has a socket for reception of the heads of discrete rivet-like connectors whose shanks extend upwardly toward the upper tool which has tongs with jaws for releasably holding a male or female component in such orientation that the central aperture of the component is in register with the shank of the connector in the socket of the lower tool. The upper tool further includes a ring-shaped hold-down device for the male or female component which is held by the tongs as well as a deforming plunger which can upset the tip of the shank after the latter has penetrated a garment between the two tools and thereupon through and partly beyond the aperture of the component in the tongs in response to downward movement of the upper tool. The hold-down device is movable axially relative to the tongs and the plunger is movable within limits axially of the hold-down device.

  • Patent number: 4541558
Abstract: A riveting press wherein a stationary lower tool is in line with a vertically reciprocable upper tool which is moved up and down in response to rotation of a first cam mounted on the output shaft of an electric motor. The output shaft carries a second cam with an endless cam groove for the follower at the upper end of a first elongated bar which is coupled to the upper portion of a second elongated bar with limited freedom of reciprocatory movement. The lower portion of the second bar carries a pair of grippers which can releasably hold a component of an article of hardware to be affixed to a sheet of textile material between the two tools. A coil spring biases the two bars apart so as to increase the distance between the follower and the grippers and to thereby close an electric switch which is in circuit with the motor.
