  • Patent number: 4655109
Abstract: For severing long workpieces, in particular pipes of metal material, especially at high temperatures, in a normal plane relative to the axis at an arbitrary site with the aid of a metal-cutting tool, a workpiece is firmly clamped and at a standstill, while the tool is guided in an interrupted cut around the workpiece with continuous radial advancement. The tool remains in engagement with the workpiece over only a portion of its path, which is effected by way of example in that the central circling of the cutting movement has superimposed upon it an eccentric planetary movement, so that the line of cutting is not a continuous circular line. In an apparatus for performing this method, a knife head (3) equipped with cutting knives (5) is seated on the end toward the cut of a hollow working shaft (2) rotating in a housing (1). A hollow control shaft (7) is preferably supported centrally in the hollow working hsaft (2) carrying the knife head (3).

  • Patent number: 4399729
Abstract: A cutting apparatus for cutting the unwound end of a coiled strip having a wedge for lifting the coil end away from the coil as the coil is rotated in a direction of unwinding, a strip guide surface for supporting the lifted coil end and a rotary cutting tool movable along a feed guide across the unwound strip thereby severing the unwound strip from the coil without the need to plastically deform the coil by bending. The feed guide may be on a support member, and the support member and the wedge are pivotable independently about an axis parallel to the axis of the coil.

  • Patent number: 4357817
Abstract: The flame-cut sheet metal elements to be deburred have a surface which lies substantially in a plane and have edge portions which are formed with sharp-edged metallic burrs extending generally in said plane and carry slag beads which protrude from said surface. Tool means are caused to perform a gyratory motion parallel to said plane and while performing said motion are engaged with said slag beads to break them off. Said tool means are caused to engage also said metallic burrs while performing a gyratory motion parallel to said plane, whereby said burrs are impact-deformed.

  • Patent number: 4252179
Abstract: In a continuous casting system, a starter block for withdrawing a metal strand from a casting mold is provided with a bolt which is readily releasable from the metal block. The bolt is provided with a conical head having a threaded surface which projects out from the end face of the starter block and is cast into the metal strand. After casting of the metal strand, the starter block is uncoupled from the bolt and the bolt is rotatably removed from the metal strand. The starter block can then be reused.

  • Patent number: 4018134
Abstract: An apparatus for trimming and profiling the edges of a metal plate comprises a table supporting the plate and at least one milling cutter unit guided laterally and parallel to a respective plate edge by at least two straight guide tracks for the milling cutter units. The guide tracks extend at right angles to each other and parallel to the plane of the plate. The milling cutter unit includes a milling cutter rotatable about an axis which is perpendicular to this plane.
