  • Patent number: 8928643
Abstract: An active matrix liquid crystal display is addressed by a voltage larger than the voltage needed for the desired grey shades. A special control circuit is added to each pixel in the display in order to generate a decaying e-function as a boosting voltage for an accelerated transition into the desired grey scale. After the completed decay of this: e-function the driving voltage needed for the desired grey scale is provided by the control circuit.

  • Publication number: 20120200550
Abstract: A liquid crystal display with a plurality of picture elements arranged in a matrix of rows and columns has a voltage signal applied sequentially to the signal lines such that a first TFT at each pixel in a row is made conductive and driving voltages are applied to the data lines such that enlarged voltages Va=k Vd with k>1 are applied sequentially to the input of the addressing circuit of each data line where Vd is the desired voltage for a given grey shade. A control circuit is utilized where signal processing takes place within the signal addressing circuit with the additional components of series connected capacitors C1 and C2 across the LC-pixel and an additional TFT across C1 with the second TFT controlled by a gate signal fed from an external voltage source in order to establish the desired voltage Vd. An alternate configuration is a circuit for applying a voltage Va and then Vd sequentially to the signal lines such that a first TFT at each pixel in a row of pixels is made conductive.

  • Publication number: 20050128193
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for a display include a display panel having multiple organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), a feedback sensor, and a control circuit. In one embodiment, the control circuit uses the feedback sensor to adjust the brightness of the optical cells in the display panel.

  • Patent number: 6559918
Abstract: The liquid crystal display has a liquid crystal cell (15) containing a bistable ferroelectric liquid crystal (12). The liquid crystal cell (15) is a quarter wave cell and includes two opposing covering electrodes (13) arranged in a flexible, preferably plastic, substrate (11) on opposite sides of the bistable ferroelectric liquide crystal (12) and spacers (16) distributed between the covering electrodes (13). A diffuser or reflector (18) is arranged on a rear side of the substrate (11) so that light passes twice through the liquid crystal cell (15). The bistable liquid crystal display with the quarter wave liquid crystal cell is flexible but mechanically stable to mechanical impacts, torsion and bending. Orienting layers (14) for the liquid crystal are applied obliquely or diagonally to the surface of the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20030016196
Abstract: A flat panel display is described. The flat panel display includes a matrix of light-emitting diodes which are driven by thin film field effect transistor circuits in which the channel electrodes of the field effect transistors are cadmium selenide or cadmium telluride. The cadmium selenide or cadmium telluride contains fluoride ions to enhance the mobility. A non-oxygenated layer is applied to the channel electrodes.

  • Patent number: 6211930
Abstract: Variable viewing angle liquid crystal display screen systems are disclosed. They are useful, e.g. in automatic teller machines where, during parts of a transaction with a user, it is undesirable that information on screen can be read by others. In accordance with the invention, interposed in a conventional display arrangement of reflector (2), backlight (1), diffuser (3), optional brightness enhancer (4, 5) and transmission type screen (6) are a collimator (10) and a variable diffuser (11). If the variable diffuser (11) is set to transparent, the light passing through the transmission type screen (6) is still collimated and accordingly the display on the screen is only effectively visible over a narrow viewing angle. If the diffuser (11) is set to diffuse the collimated light, then the display is visible over a very wide range of angles.
