  • Patent number: 9707704
Abstract: A method for applying a magnetic element to a surface includes the steps of providing a magnetized surface capable of holding a magnetic element, providing a substrate having a surface to be modified by the addition of the magnetic element, bringing the magnetic element into contact with the surface of the substrate, eliminating the magnetism of the magnetized surface to create an un-magnetized surface, and withdrawing the un-magnetized surface from contact with the surface of the substrate, thereby leaving behind the magnetic element on the surface of the substrate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 3, 2013
Date of Patent: July 18, 2017
    Assignee: The University of Akron
    Inventor: Erol Sancaktar

  • Publication number: 20040195744
Abstract: A fiber-reinforced composite spring including a spring wire that includes a core having a plurality of fiber tows that are twisted about a longitudinal axis to create a contoured core surface, and an outer layer of resin that is substantially devoid of said fiber tows, wherein said outer layer has a thickness that varies along the longitudinal axis to form a generally uniform outer surface about the core.
    Type: Application
    Filed: April 9, 2004
    Publication date: October 7, 2004
    Applicant: The University of Akron
    Inventors: Erol Sancaktar, Sunil Gowrishankar
  • Publication number: 20020190451
Abstract: A fiber-reinforced composite spring comprising a coiled spring wire that comprises a fiber-reinforced core having longitudinal axis, where the core comprises core-reinforcing fiber tows that are twisted about the longitudinal axis of the core, and an outer layer surrounding the fiber-reinforced core, where the outer layer comprises a resin that is devoid of fiber tows.
