  • Patent number: 6427488
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for heating glass sheets to be tempered or heat-strengthened, in which method glass sheets are heated in a preheating furnace (1) by applying a hot-air blast and convection heating produced thereby to the opposite sides of a glass sheet and the preheated glass sheet is transferred from the preheating furnace (1) into a radiation heating furnace (2) for heating the glass sheet to a tempering temperature. During the convection heating of a glass sheet, the rotating speed of a hot-air fan (5) is increased while adjusting the heating effect of heating resistances (6) so as to maintain the temperature of blasted air substantially constant. Thus, the diminishing temperature difference between glass and air is compensated for by controlling the coefficient of heat transfer.

  • Patent number: 6067820
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the heat-soak treatment of tempered glass panels. After tempering, the glass is heated or cooling of the glass is stopped for maintaining the temperature for the duration of e.g. a good minute within the range of 340-370.degree. C., such that the glasses, which break spontaneously in time as a result of NiS-stones, can be broken already in a so-called heat-soak treatment. During the heating sequence or the cooling stop sequence and during the subsequent cooling sequence, the glass panel is carried in a horizontal plane, e.g. back and forth on rollers in an oscillating fashion. The process is a continuous-action process and the apparatus for implementing the same can be hooked up with a tempering machine for an on-line operation.

  • Patent number: 5980197
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for laying spacing ribs between prelaminated glass panels. Suction pads (10) grabbing a glass (13) and grippers (9) picking up ribs (12) are manipulated together with a common transfer device (1). In a first sequence, the transfer device (1) is brought alongside a rib magazine (14) and the ribs (12) are picked up with the grippers (9), in a second sequence the transfer device (1) is carried along with the ribs to a position above the glass (13) on a conveyor (15) and the suction pads (10) are used to grab the glass (13), and in a third sequence, the glass (13) is carried by means of the transfer device (1) along with the ribs (12) onto an unloading block (18, 19).

  • Patent number: 5970745
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for stopping a glass panel conveyed from a furnace into a tempering station or a bending and tempering station. In the method, a glass panel is carried upon rolls and pressed by means of overhead press rollers, as the conveying speed of the rollers is decelerated for stopping the glass panel. Over a deceleration distance, the rate of deceleration is within the range of 0.6-3 m/s.sup.2. By virtue of the overhead press rollers, the rate of deceleration can be increased, such that the glass exit speed from a furnace can be raised and, at the same time, the glass cooling time can be minimized prior to a tempering process.

  • Patent number: 5928398
Abstract: An apparatus for bending and tempering glass sheets includes a roll conveyor for supporting a glass sheet, the glass sheet having a top and a bottom surface. The roll conveyor includes a plurality of vertically movable rolls for arching the conveyor to a curvature corresponding to a desired degree of bending in the glass sheet. The rolls each have two opposed ends, and at least some of the rolls being deflectable such that at least mid-sections thereof are movable relative to a vertical position of ends thereof. The apparatus further includes a plurality of movable press rollers disposed above the rolls. The press rollers are movable in a vertical direction to apply a pressing force to the top surface of the glass sheet.

  • Patent number: 5906695
Abstract: Invention relates to a method and apparatus for laminating glass sheets by placing a plastic film between the glass sheets. A refrigerated space (1) arranged above a laminating space (2) contains a plurality of unwinding units (6) for film rolls and therebelow a conveyor (9) taking up a film unwound from a roll. The laminating space (2) includes an intermediate conveyor (10) onto which a film sheet is transferred for heating prior to transferring said film sheet onto a glass sheet advancing on a laminating conveyor (4).

  • Patent number: 5853516
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for laminating glass sheets. A sandwich structure to be laminated is preheated with radiation heat to a temperature of about 30.degree. C.-45.degree. C. This is followed by a first pressing operation between a pair of rolls (1). Next, the sandwich structure is heated by two-sided hot-air blasting (4, 5) for raising the temperature of glass and film to a temperature range of 60.degree. C.-85.degree. C. This is followed by a pressing operation between a second pair of press rolls.
