Patent number: 9100415Abstract: A device in a provider network receives a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) request message from an originating device, where the SIP request message includes a general number for a voicemail service and where the voicemail service includes multiple voicemail systems. The device determines whether the originating device is associated with a voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) account on the provider network and, when the originating device is associated with a VoIP account, selects a direct access number assigned to a voicemail system, from the multiple voicemail systems in the network, that services the VoIP account. The device also associates the direct access number and the SIP request message, and forwards, based on the direct access number, the SIP request message to an application server.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2009Date of Patent: August 4, 2015Assignee: Verizon Patent and Licensing Inc.Inventors: Michelle Madden Johnston, Euclid S. Brooks, Vikas V. Sahdev, Steven Leon Spak

Patent number: 8971513Abstract: A device receives information associated with a calling party, validates the calling party for an originating locator service based on the calling party information, and sends an instruction to play an announcement requesting information associated with a called party. The device also receives the called party information from the calling party in response to the announcement, and retrieves called party destination information based on the called party information. The device then sends an instruction to originate a sequence of calls to the called party based on the called party destination information.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2009Date of Patent: March 3, 2015Assignee: Verizon Patent and Licensing Inc.Inventors: Euclid S. Brooks, Jeffrey R. Evans, Nashwa F. Sidhom, Henry L. Tam

Patent number: 8265236Abstract: A method may include selecting a voice mail out-dial access number corresponding to a local access transport area (LATA) boundary, storing the voice mail out-dial access number on a voice mail system, and providing, by the voice mail system, voice mail out-dial service based on the LATA boundary associated with the voice mail out-dial access number. A method for providing toll-free access to the voice mail system that may be used by customers from both on-network and off-network end points.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 2008Date of Patent: September 11, 2012Assignee: Verizon Patent and Licensing Inc.Inventors: Euclid S. Brooks, Michelle M. Johnston, Kenneth E. Letellier
