  • Publication number: 20040220821
Abstract: The invention provides a method for auctioning a time sensitive item. An item which needs to be sold by a specified time is first identified. The item is offered for sale at an auction. Bids for the item are received from at least one bidder, and the item is sold to the highest bidder. In one embodiment, surplus tickets for capacity-limited events are identified and sold on an internet auction site.

  • Publication number: 20040162740
Abstract: An electronic database is provided which contains a plurality of transaction records for transactions in which a prescription medicinal substance is dispensed to a patient. Preferably the database is of nation-wide scope. Each transaction record contains a plurality of electronically associated data items including a medicinal substance data item and a patient data item. The database is operably associated with a computer means for searching the electronic database by at least one data item and identifying the transaction records containing such at least one data item, and performing at least one predetermined data processing function on the identified transaction records and generating a processed data packet. A communication means is operably associated with the computer means for communicating the processed data packet to a user. The database can be used to identify prescription fraud, medication overuse and abuse, and to provide an early warning for bioterror attacks.

  • Patent number: 6471507
Abstract: The WSL Gas Igniter is, in essence, a small, reuasable gas bomb intended to be used in the testing of fire suppression systems. The device has two main parts. The main parts are the control box and the igniter head. The control box controls all aspects of operation. It controls the flow of all gases, as well as, the electrically powered ignition system. The igniter head contains an accumulation/combustion chamber in which a combustible mixture of gases is introduced. Also, the combustion chamber contains a small spark generating means. A control signal initiates a spark system and the flow of gases into the combustion chamber simultaneously. At the desired moment of ignition, the control signal is removed, which ceases the gas flow and ignites the combustible mixture of gases in the combustion chamber. The explosion produced by the invention is intended to ignite a test subject for the purpose of testing fire suppression capability.

  • Patent number: 5554975
Abstract: A safety cane incorporates an ambient light sensitive illumination device for conserving battery power. A tipping detector is also incorporated which sounds an audible alarm after a first time delay. If the cane is not retrieved by the end of the second time delay, the cane broadcasts an initiating instruction to a telephone dialing device.

  • Patent number: 5300096
Abstract: An electrical muscle stimulator converts electromyographic (EMG) signals to digital words for analysis and display by a computer program. The therapist selects a variety of different parameters appropriate for the individual patient, and instructs the device to initiate stimulating signals on command, or upon detection of a suitable EMG signal from the patient. The device that converts digital words representing the selected parameters into complex, bipolar therapeutic pulses. The device can digitally model a wide variety of wave forms and graphically assist the therapist in developing and shaping various wave pulse trains.

  • Patent number: 5078330
Abstract: A battery powered electric motor driven rewinding and storing apparatus for flexible protective covers for vehicles. The apparatus has a framework enclosed by a flexible vinyl covering with an axle extending therethrough for winding a vehicle cover upon. One end of the axle attaches to a manual crank and the other to a gear box. A direct current electric motor drives the gear box from a low voltage battery. The gear box can be disengaged to unwind the cover or to facilitate manual rewinding. The apparatus includes an adjustable strap which allows attachment to different locking mechanisms in different automobile trunks when the apparatus is resting on the automobile bumper. Elastic straps are used to hold the apparatus in place on the bumper.
