  • Publication number: 20080055423
Abstract: A system and method of security monitoring is disclosed. In a particular embodiment, a method includes determining a channel of a television system associated with video content from a security camera. In a particular embodiment, a method includes sending a first alert to a display device and sending a second alert to a remote control device.

  • Publication number: 20080007621
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a system and method of controlling access to an entrance. In a particular embodiment, the method includes receiving a first signal, first data, or any combination thereof, at an audio video transport system indicating that a request to access an entrance has been received via a security system. The method also includes determining a set-top box device associated with the request. Further, the method includes sending a second signal, second data, or any combination thereof, to a network terminal indicating that the request has been received, wherein the network terminal communicates video content of an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) system to the set-top box device. The network terminal communicates an alert to the set-top box device indicating that the request has been received, the alert overlaying the video content at a display device coupled to the set-top box device.

  • Patent number: 7142649
Abstract: A data modem aggregator system and a method of initializing a data modem is disclosed. In a particular embodiment, the data modem aggregator system includes a plurality of data ports configured to communicate data traffic. The data traffic is carried over dedicated data twisted pair lines. The data modem aggregator system further includes shared data processing resources to process the data traffic communicated over the plurality of data ports and a high-speed multiplexed output responsive to the plurality of data ports and the shared resources. In a particular embodiment, the method of initializing a data connection for a data modem includes detecting power-on of the data modem, handshaking from the data modem with a far end connection, negotiating a data rate with the far end connection, and communicating data between the data modem and the far end connection over a dedicated data twisted pair line.

  • Publication number: 20040260747
Abstract: An apparatus and methods for utilizing a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone with a built-in VPN client is disclosed. A VoIP telephone with an internal VPN client module incorporated into the VoIP telephone establishes a VPN tunnel directly from the VoIP telephone VPN client to an IP-PBX network access point. A VPN session, established in response to keypad input from a user of the VoIP telephone, is conducted over the VPN tunnel to a remote location. In a disclosed method, a secured VoIP telephone communication link is established by receiving a request from a user of the VoIP telephone, processing the request, and sending a signal from the VoIP telephone unit's VPN client over a data interface to a remote location. After exchange of authentication messages between the VoIP telephone VPN client and a remote location's VPN server, a VPN session is established.

  • Publication number: 20040240432
Abstract: An apparatus and methods for utilizing a stand-alone Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone with traditional plain old telephone service (POTS) telephone support is disclosed. A stand-alone VoIP telephone with an analog telephone adaptor supporting a plurality of external analog telephone sets and a digital Internet protocol (IP) interface to support VoIP voice data communication over a data channel is presented. The VoIP telephone is used to establish VoIP service line data connections between a VoIP telephone and a data switch to an IP network. The VoIP telephone receives an analog telephone signal from an external analog telephone and establishes a voice connection between the external analog telephone and the VoIP telephone.

  • Patent number: 6813277
Abstract: A protocol for handling multiple access on broadband communication networks, e.g., fiber/coax networks and wireless networks, supports both continuous bit rate (CBR) and variable bit rate (VBR) traffic representing voice, video telephony, interactive television, and data. The invention is carried out both in customer premise equipment (CPE) at stations, and in a common controller with which all stations communicate. A medium access control (MAC) processor provided in each of the stations and in the common controller divides the time domain for a given RF channel into a series of successive frames, each having a plurality of time slots. Because of the architecture of the communication network, individual stations do not communicate directly with each other, but can receive broadcast messages indicating the status of each time slot, which messages are generated in the common controller and transmitted in a downstream channel.
