  • Patent number: 10133949
Abstract: A method of generating synthetic data from time series data, such as from handwritten characters, words, sentences, mathematics, and sketches that are drawn with a stylus on an interactive display or with a finger on a touch device. This computationally efficient method is able to generate realistic variations of a given sample. In a handwriting or sketch recognition context, synthetic data is generated from real data in order to train recognizers and thus improve recognition accuracy when only a limited number of samples are available. Similarly, synthetic data can also be used to test and validate such recognizers. Also discussed is a dynamic time warping based approach for both segmented and continuous data that is designed to be a robust, go-to method for gesture recognition across a variety of modalities using only limited training samples.

  • Patent number: 9823876
Abstract: Apparatus and method for managing multi-device storage systems. In some embodiments, a distributed data set is stored across a group of storage devices. Data from a selected storage device in the group are reconstructed and stored in a spare location. Host access requests associated with the data are serviced from the spare location along a first data path while the data from the spare location are concurrently transferred along a different, second data path to a replacement storage device maintained in an offline condition using a progressive (iterative) copyback process. The replacement storage device is thereafter transitioned to an online condition responsive to the transfer of the data to the replacement storage device.

  • Patent number: 9009569
Abstract: There is provided a method of writing data to a sector of a storage device, the sector comprising a data field and a protection information field and having identifying information identifying the location of said sector. The method comprises providing data to be written to an intended sector, generating, for said intended sector, a message comprising the data and the identifying information of said intended sector and performing, on said message, error correcting encoding to generate a codeword. The codeword comprises the message and parity information generated from said error correcting coding. The data can then be written to the data field of the sector, and the parity information can be written to said protection information field of the sector.
