Patent number: 9529017Abstract: A test and measurement instrument and method of switching waveform display styles includes acquiring an electrical signal, storing peak detect data samples from the electrical signal to one or more memory devices, storing filtered data samples or unfiltered data from the electrical signal, automatically switching to a first waveform display style having the peak detect data samples configured in a first mode when a user selects the unfiltered data, and automatically switching to a second waveform display style having the peak detect data samples configured in a second mode when the user selects the filtered data samples.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2014Date of Patent: December 27, 2016Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventors: Gregory A. Martin, David D. Farrell, Evan A. Dickinson

Patent number: 8482564Abstract: A method of region overlap control for the display of a plurality of waveforms on an instrument includes an overlap function that allows selection by a user of a vertical height on a display screen for each of the waveforms. A ground marker for each of the waveforms is adjusted on the display screen according to the selected vertical height. The result is that the plurality of waveforms are displayed on the display screen in an overlapping fashion with sufficient vertical height to enhance triggering, all measurement functions and secondary functions, such as harmonics and switching loss measurements.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2007Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventors: Craig H. Nelson, David Shanks, Evan A. Dickinson, Leif X. Running, Steven C. Herring

Patent number: 7847792Abstract: A simple, integrated control for pan and zoom of a display of data represented by a very long data record is in the form of a control knob having an outer ring for controlling pan and an inner knob for controlling a zoom factor. A zoom function is turned ON either by turning the inner knob (setting the zoom factor to a default value) or by (i) pressing an adjacent zoom or pan button or (ii) turning the outer ring (setting the zoom factor to a prior value when the zoom function was turned OFF). The zoom function may be turned OFF by turning the inner knob to set the zoom factor to 1× or by pressing the zoom button. The outer ring has individual positions divided into two groups: one group for controlling pan rate within a zoom window displaying a portion of the very long data record defined by a zoom box within a main window displaying the very long data record; and the other group for controlling pan rate of the zoom box within the main window for rapid movement from one end of the record to another.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2006Date of Patent: December 7, 2010Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventors: Scott R. Ketterer, Lance H. Forsberg, Lynne A. Fitzsimmons, Evan A. Dickinson, Steven C. Herring, Kenneth P. Dobyns, Keith D. Rule

Publication number: 20080191894Abstract: An indicia for channels that are collected into a group has a head situated adjacent channel numbers representing the channels included within the group, and has a tail that encompasses the channel numbers. When the last channel in the group is selected, further turning of a Select knob in the same direction results in selection of the group, which selection is indicated by highlighting at least a portion of the indicia.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 27, 2007Publication date: August 14, 2008Applicant: TEKTRONIX, INC.Inventors: Evan A. Dickinson, Leif X. Running, Steven C. Herring, Tony L. Tarr

Publication number: 20070285407Abstract: A user interface for an oscilloscope, or the like, simultaneously displays data in a plurality of selectable formats, such as hexadecimal or binary, and allows a user to edit the data in a selected one of the formats. The data is input by an operator of the oscilloscope and used to trigger the oscilloscope or is used as a search term for searching a received oscilloscope data record for an occurrence of that data. The content of the operator-entered data may be text or numeric data or it may be representative of a memory address. The individual digits of the data or whole blocks of data may be selected for entry or editing.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 17, 2006Publication date: December 13, 2007Inventors: Evan A. Dickinson, Gary J. Waldo
