Patent number: 11095119Abstract: A voltage of a first pin that is one of several pins of an external connector of a system is measured, while the first pin is un-driven except for being pulled to ground through a first resistance, and a second pin of the external connector is being used as a power supply rail of the system. The measured voltage is compared to a short circuit threshold and in response to that threshold being exceeded, the power supply voltage on the second pin is reduced. In such an embodiment, no test stimulus needs to be applied to any of the pins of the external connector. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2019Date of Patent: August 17, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Roderick D. Bacon, Nagendra Bage Jayaraj, Derek J. DiCarlo, Chi Kin Ho, Xingqun Li, Jahan C. Minoo, Surya Musunuri, Tony Chi Wang Ng, Carlos Ribas, Ching Yu John Tam, Evan J. Thompson, Daniel C. Wagman, Di Zhao, Robert D. Zupke

Patent number: 9674325Abstract: Systems and methods of providing a mobile phone cover are described. In some embodiments, the mobile phone cover may include, for example, a processor and lighting devices. The lighting devices may be operatively coupled to the processor. The processor may be configured, for example, to receive first signals based on second signals in which the second signals are generated by the mobile phone. The second signals may be indicative of an incoming call, an incoming message, a pending message, and/or a calendar alert (e.g., an upcoming appointment), for example. The processor may be configured to cause lighting of one or more of the lighting devices based on the first signals.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2016Date of Patent: June 6, 2017Assignee: STAR CO SCIENTIFIC TECHNOLOGIES ADVANCED RESEARCH CO, LLCInventors: Thomas E. Coverstone, Evan J. Thompson

Patent number: 9571950Abstract: Systems and methods of audio reproduction are described. In one embodiment, one or more processors can be configured, for example, to receive an L channel signal and an R channel signal, to combine the L channel signal and the R channel signal, to average the combined signal, to detect an impulse signal in the averaged signal, to multiply the impulse signal, to scale the multiplied impulse signal, and to add the scaled impulse signal to the averaged signal to form a resultant signal. Sound can be generated, for example, by speakers based on at least the resultant signal.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2015Date of Patent: February 14, 2017Assignee: STAR CO Scientific Technologies Advanced Research Co., LLCInventor: Evan J.
