  • Patent number: 11927095
Abstract: A steering pad apparatus for a rotary steerable system is provided. The steering pad apparatus comprises a base comprising one or more base lugs, each of the base lugs defining a respective axial hole therein. The apparatus further comprises a steering pad hingedly coupled to the base, the steering pad comprising one or more pad lugs, each said pad lug defining a respective axial hole therein. The one or more pad lugs are coupled to the one or more base lugs such that each of the one or more pad lugs is adjacent to at least one of the one or more base lugs. The apparatus further comprises, for each adjacent base lug and pad lug, a respective one or more bushings received in at least one of: the hole of the pad lug; and the hole of the base lug.

  • Patent number: 11105167
Abstract: A pressure generating device for use in downhole drilling operations includes a rotating valve portion having a first body with at least one first flow channel, and a stationary valve portion having a second body with at least one second flow channels and at least one bypass channel. A flow restrictor is positioned within the at least one bypass channel for adjusting a total flow area of the at least one bypass channel. During rotation of the rotating valve portion relative to the stationary valve portion, a total flow area of a passage defined by the first flow channel(s), the second flow channel(s), and the at least one bypass channel varies according to a uniform closure pattern to provide uniform pressure pulses within a single revolution of the rotating valve portion. A method of generating uniform pressure pulses in downhole drilling operations is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10184306
Abstract: A rotary subterranean drill capable of detecting an excessive downhole pressure condition and automatically remediating the causal condition of the detected excessive pressure condition. A pressure detector coupled to a drill string of the rotary subterranean drill can sense an excessive downhole pressure condition that exceeds a predetermined value. When an excessive downhole pressure condition is sensed at the pressure detector drag members are automatically disengaged from the borehole, thereby permitting rotation of the anchorable exterior portion within the borehole.

  • Patent number: 9879784
Abstract: In an apparatus having a housing, a housing bore, and a shaft rotatably extending through the housing bore, a rotary seal assembly which includes a seal carrier retainer connected with the housing and defining a cavity surrounding the shaft, a seal carrier positioned within the cavity of the seal carrier retainer, wherein the seal carrier is capable of an amount of radial deflection and tilting both relative to the seal carrier retainer and wherein the seal carrier is retained by the seal carrier retainer so that rotation of the seal carrier relative to the seal carrier retainer is prevented, a rotary shaft seal carried by the seal carrier between the seal carrier and the shaft, and a seal carrier seal interposed between the seal carrier and the seal carrier retainer.
