The belt (3) includes two belt-portions (7,8) which extend essentially in mutually opposite directions from the absorbent part (2) and which are intended to be fastened together around the wearer of the garment (1). The handling properties and comfort properties of the garment have been greatly improved by using a belt (3) whose stiffness varies in the cross-direction thereof.
