Abstract: A method for copy protection includes receiving data in a recording module representing content to be recorded on a recording medium, the data including an indication that the content is to be protected from unauthorized copying. Responsive to the indication, the recording module signals a protection module to initiate a protection protocol in synchronization with the recording module. The protection module generates control information, so as to prevent the unauthorized copying of the content that is to be protected, and conveys the control information to the recording module, in accordance with the protocol. The recording module combines the control information with the data representing the content in the recording module, for recording on the recording medium.

Abstract: Recording content distribution information into authorized copies of content is performed by modifying an adjunct to content with content distribution information using a functional transformation each time an authorized copy of the content is generated. By thus modifying the adjunct to content, a trail of content distribution information is stored in the adjunct that is extractable from the adjunct in any of such generated copies by sequentially performing an inverse transformation on the adjunct until information of an original copy is detected.

Abstract: An application, media drive, and media are configured so as to cooperate with one another to provide secure access and copying of protected content on the media. The application cooperates with the media drive to identify the media as a cooperating component, and in the process, also identifies the media drive as a cooperating component. The media includes information facilitating such identifying activity, such as a fingerprint indicating the copy protection method used to protect the content. Also included on the media is a guard module that authenticates the application as a cooperating component, establishes secure channels respectively with the application and the media drive for communicating secret information, installs licenses included on the media, and only allows access to the protected content if the media is an original copy. The application then manages usage and/or copying of the protected content according to the installed licenses.

Abstract: A system for interactive on-line electronic communications and processing of business transactions between a plurality of different types of independent users including at least a plurality of sellers, and a plurality of buyers, as well as financial institutions, and freight service providers. Each user can communicate with the system from remote terminals adapted to access communication links and the system may include remote terminals adapted for storage of a remote data base. The system includes a data base which contains user information. The data base is accessed via a validation procedure to permit business transactions in an interactive on-line mode between users during interactive business transaction sessions wherein one party to the transaction is specifically selected by the other party. The system permits concurrent interactive business transaction sessions between different users.
