  • Patent number: 11952548
Abstract: A system for torrefaction of waste material comprising biogenic material and plastic material may comprise a material pre-processing system, a heating and compaction unit, a reactor system comprising a reaction portion and an extrusion portion, and a cutting unit adjacent an outlet of the reactor system. A method for operating a system for torrefaction of waste material comprising biogenic and plastic material may comprise processing the waste material to generate waste material having an aspect ratio between 0.8:1 and 1.2:1 and a largest dimension of less than 4 millimeters (mm); compressing and heating the pre-processed waste material in the heating and compaction unit; heating the compacted waste material in the reactor system to a temperature of 280° C.-500° C.; extruding material from the reactor system; and cutting the extruded material into pellets.

  • Publication number: 20240059858
Abstract: A system to carry out solvent targeted recovery and precipitation (STRAP) to recover individual polymers from multilayer plastic films or mixed plastic wastes, comprising a down-sizing device to shred the plastic wastes into particles with a size and aspect ratio to be flowable; a feeder that conveys the plastic particles in a constant flow without bridging; a dissolution vessel to selectively dissolve an individual polymer component in a solvent; a high temperature filter to separate the dissolved polymer component from the undissolved plastics; a precipitator to precipitate the dissolved polymer component; a low temperature filter to separate the precipitated polymer component from the solvent; and a distillation unit to purify the recycled solvent. The unique design of the feeder and the dissolution vessels allows the system to run in a semi-continuous mode.

  • Patent number: 9193916
Abstract: A system for producing a torrefied biomass that at least partially replaces coal in coal-fired processes. The system comprises: a feed bin for receiving carbonaceous feedstock, conveying the ingested feedstock and treating the ingested feedstock to produce modified feedstock; a dryer that treats the modified feedstock to produce dried feedstock, the dryer including a heater that warms the dried feedstock to produce heated feedstock; a torrefaction subassembly; a particle downsizing system; a separator for separating minerals from the feedstock; and a compactor.
