Publication number: 20150035974Abstract: combined imager and rangefinder includes an imaging sensor and an illuminator. The sensor acquires images of objects in a FOV. The illuminator directs a beam of light via the FOV. In a first mode, the sensor acquires full images of the whole FOV. In a second mode, the sensor acquires partial images, of only part of the FOV, that include a reflection of the light from one of the objects. The range to the object is determined from the location of the reflection in the partial images. Successive range measurements are used to determine whether a collision with the object is imminent.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 27, 2012Publication date: February 5, 2015Inventors: Dov Lavi, Ezra Shamay

Patent number: 7154085Abstract: A method and system for monitoring a region of interest are presented. Incident radiation is transmitted towards the region of interest with a certain transmitting angle and with a predetermined angular intensity distribution of the incident radiation. The transmitting angle defines a plane of propagation of the incident radiation, the region of interest being located within this plane. Reflections of the incident radiation are collected with a solid angle of collection intersecting with said plane. A region of intersection presents a detecting window of a predetermined geometry containing at least a portion of the region of interest. The collected radiation coming from within the detecting window is detected, and output signals indicative thereof are generated.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2005Date of Patent: December 26, 2006Assignee: Rafael Armament Development Authority, Ltd.Inventors: Evgeny Frumker, Eliezer Rosenblum, Ezra Shamay

Patent number: 5448233Abstract: An airborne obstacle collision avoidance apparatus which includes an object sensor for sensing objects within a field of view of the aircraft and an aircraft navigation system for navigating the aircraft through space. The apparatus also includes a signal processor for receiving data from both the object sensor and the aircraft navigation system, for generating map data of the objects within the field of view of the aircraft, for dynamically changing the map data as the aircraft moves through space and for determining the probability that the aircraft is on a collision course with respect to each sensed object. The apparatus further includes an alarm which is activated when the signal processor determines that there is a high probability that the current aircraft flight direction is on a collision course with respect to a sensed object.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1994Date of Patent: September 5, 1995Assignee: State of Israel, Rafael Armament Development AuthorityInventors: Izhak Saban, Sorin Faibish, Ezra Shamay
