  • Patent number: 8484916
Abstract: A panel-sealing and securing system for securing a panel to a mullion coupled with weather seal pressure gaskets for sealing exterior joints under high wind velocity. The mullion is formed in one piece or in two halves of a split mullion which occurs at the joint between multiple pre-fabricated units of a unitized grid system. The mullion has a concealed front corner cavity adjacent to panel for installing the panel-sealing and securing system. For weather sealing, elastic pressure gaskets and expansion joints comprising panel gasket seals at a joint between the panel and the mullion and mullion gasket seals at a joint between the two halves of split mullion where a unitized split mullion system is used. To securing the panel to the mullion and allow for thermal expansion movement of the panel, two segments formed in one piece or in two hinge connected pieces include a gasket holder segment and a spacer plate segment.

  • Patent number: 7832160
Abstract: Forming a fenestration unit which may have seismic safe properties and/or fire resistance rated properties for use in buildings and other structures includes edge attaching a panel of any applicable material, in a continuous fashion, to a supporting mullion by means of a bridging element that withstands and transfers stresses to the supporting mullion. Single or multiple insert parts may be attached to the bridging element and may be integrally embedded between multiple sheets composing the panel, or attached respectively in single or multiple grooves at the edge of the panel. The panel may be composed of multiple laminated sheets. A laminating interlayer between the sheets will hold the sheets together as one sheet. The interlayer can be a liquid that may cure to a rigid material. Alternatively, the interlayer may be provided between the multiple sheets and the assembly may be heated and pressed multiple times.

  • Patent number: 6857233
Abstract: Apparatus and systems for a fire resistant rated fenestration including curtain wall systems for multiple story buildings capable of withstanding a seismic load. Fire resistant panels are mounted in a fire resistant mullion where the mullion may be one element, or may have an inner structural shell and an outer shell. A barrier of fire resistant material is disposed between the inner and outer shells. A sealer compound or a fire resistant compressible filler seals the space between the mullion and the fire resistant panels. The inner structural shell member is connected to an elastic panel fastener that is connected at its opposite end to fire resistant panels. The fastener allows the fire resistant panels to move in response to a seismic load without damage to the mullion or panels.

  • Patent number: 5579616
Abstract: A panel-securing system for securing a panel in a desired position includes a mullion portion having a channel formed therein and a holding element received within the channel of the mullion portion and coupled with a panel fastener attached to the panel to secure the panel to the mullion portion, the holding element including a snap-locking element. The mullion preferably extends in a longitudinal direction toward the panel, and the channel preferably is angled with respect to the longitudinal direction. The holding element preferably is inserted into the channel to urge the panel fastener toward the mullion portion to secure the panel to the mullion portion. Further, a plurality of mullion extensions of different lengths can be used to create a curtainwall of irregular three-dimensional geometry.

  • Patent number: 5381637
Abstract: A system and method is employed to attach panels to vertical and horizontal mullions to form stopless butt-joint curtainwalls. A cap section of a panel engaging hook is attached to the edge of the panel, which typically comprises an insulated glass panel. The hook includes a flange leg portion which abuts a weather pressure gasket and is held in position by a channel shaped retainer clip. A retainer clip is attached to a portion of the mullion by means of a wedge. The a wedge is forced into the space between the retainer clip and the mullion through an aperture in the webb of retainer clip. A screw passes through another aperture in the retainer clip to further fasten the retainer clip to the mullions. The wedge in combination with a cushion located on the opposite side of the retainer clip from the wedge forms a thermal break. Once the assembly pieces are securely attached, the appropriate weather gasketing is provided between the retainer clip and the inside of the insulated glass panel.

  • Patent number: 5355645
Abstract: A system and method is employed for installing a curtainwall thermally broken multi-system of four sided stopless butt-joint glazing or facing panels with dry gasketted joints. A retainer clip assembly attaches facing panels of glass, metal, granite, marble, plastic, acrylic, insulation or the like of single, multiple or composite panels. The curtain wall multi-system can have an irregular geometric impression. All field labor for initial installation or replacement takes place from inside the building. A supporting metal grid can include split mullion interlocking halves which are anchored to the building's structure. A retainer clip assembly reduces tension stress and insures a fail-safe thermal break system. Glass, facing panel, louver infills, framed operable window in one plane or multiple planes, dual glazing of glass, acrylic sheets or any combination thereof can be used with the grid. In other embodiment, thermal break spacers are positioned between interlocking portions of a mullion.
