    Abstract: The present invention is a cryogenic subterranean fracturing fluid, comprising a liquefied industrial gas and a viscosity increasing additive. The liquefied industrial gas may be liquefied carbon dioxide, liquefied nitrogen, or a blend of the two. The liquefied industrial gas mixture should be substantially free of water. In this context, substantially free of water means less than 10% water by volume, or preferably less than 5% water by volume. In addition to the viscosity increasing additive, a proppant may be added to the fracturing fluid. In addition to the viscosity increasing additive and/or proppant additional additives may be added to the liquefied industrial gas as required.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for decreasing the bacteria count of a food commodity without affecting its overall organoleptic quality (taste, odor, and color). This is accomplished using a treatment fluid comprising ozone, which is injected into a treatment chamber containing the food commodity. Some water is preferably added to obtain better contact of the ozone with the food by forming a thin film of ozonated water on the food surface. Spices and/or other ingredients may preferably be added with the water. The food is placed in a tumbler and the tumbler is set in motion. During treatment good contact between the treatment fluid and the food commodity is obtained by reversibly oscillating the tumbler. A log reduction of 40% or more in bacteria count may be obtained as compared without the ozone.

    Abstract: Apparatus for the decontamination, disinfection, or sterilization of materials such as medical waste by exposure to ozonized air comprises a generator of ozonized air, an enclosure for the accumulation of ozonized air, a processing enclosure in which the materials to be processed are placed, and a destroyer of residual ozone leaving the processing enclosure. The ozonized air reaches the processing enclosure via the accumulation enclosure. A vacuum pump operating in air is situated downstream from the ozone destroyer for creating a partial vacuum in the processing enclosure. The generator of ozonized air is connected in open circuit with the accumulation enclosure. The apparatus further comprises an injection valve interposed between the accumulation enclosure and the processing enclosure. The injection valve is controlled in such a way as to periodically to trigger the sudden and forceful injection of ozonized air into the processing enclosure as soon as the pressure drops below a certain limit.

    Abstract: In the process for the ozone treatment of hot water in the hot water supply system of a building for the purpose of disinfection of the water, the hot water is led into a treatment tank (3). Here the pressure is reduced to a level below that in the pipes of the hot water supply system, an ozone-containing gas being continually introduced into the water, which gas passes through the water in the form of bubbles, the ozone being given up to the water. The remaining gas subsequently undergoes transition to a gaseous state in the upper part of the tank, from which the gas is drawn off. The treated water is then fed into the hot water supply system of the building, the pressure being restored by means of at least one pump to the level of the operating pressure within the hot water supply system. The method can be used to remove harmful micro-organisms such as legionella pneumophila from hot water systems without raising the temperature to around 70.degree. C.
