  • Publication number: 20090046830
Abstract: Systems and methods include coordinated (KV) and megaelectronvolt (MV) computerized tomography (CT) imaging. KV and MV data are combined using a normalization process in order to generate CT images. The resulting CT images can include an improved signal to noise ratio in comparison to CT images generated using either KV or MV imaging alone. The coordinated KV and MV imaging process may be accomplished in significantly less time than using KV or MV imaging alone. This time savings has advantages in treatment verification. The MV projections are optionally generated using MV x-rays configured for x-ray treatment. In these cases the combined projections will reflect the treatment volume.

  • Publication number: 20080043903
Abstract: In some embodiments, without limitation, the invention comprises a modulated image-guided x-ray brachytherapy system including a source providing low-energy photons, the source configured for placement at least partially within a patient, a control system configured to modulate the source, and an imaging systems for locating the source relative to a treatment location in the patient. The system may further comprises a target at least partially within the patient, a generator located outside the patient for providing low-energy photons, the generator configured to direct low-energy photons to the target, and a conduit between the generator and the target providing a path for the low-energy photons to travel inside the patient. The system may further comprise an in situ x-ray generator for insertion within the patient. The system may further comprise a radioactive pellet.

  • Publication number: 20070291895
Abstract: Systems and methods for localizing a target for radiotherapy based on digital tomosynthesis are provided. According to one method, DTS verification image data of a target located within or on a patient is generated. The DTS verification image data is compared with DTS reference image data of the target. Radiotherapy positioning information is determined based on the comparison of the DTS verification and reference image data.

  • Publication number: 20070081629
Abstract: A fuzzy inference system for use in modulating radiation treatment includes a fuzzifer for inputting imaging data, and inference device operatively to the fuzzifer for analyzing the imaging data and determining radiation treatment target from non-treatment target, and a defuzzifier for modulating radiation treatment pursuant to the analysis from the inference device.

  • Publication number: 20060269049
Abstract: A dual simulator/imaging system includes a pair of detector arrangements, preferably orthogonal to each other. In the case of simulation, an x-ray source may be arranged with each detector. The system can also be implemented in radiation therapy, CT or SPECT environments. There is also described a dual-detector simulator, and a dual detector CBCT simulator.

  • Patent number: 5133020
Abstract: A method for automated analysis of abnormalities in the form of lesions and parenchymal distortions using digital images, including generating image data from respective of digital images derived from at least one selected portion of an object, for example, from mammographical digital images of the left and right breasts. The image data from each of the digital images are then correlated to produce correlated data in which normal anatomical structured background is removed. The correlated data is then searched using one or more predetermined criteria to identify in at least one of the digital images an abnormal region represented by a portion of the correlated data which meets the predetermined criteria. The location of the abnormal region is then indicated, and the indicated location is then subjected to classification processing to determine whether or not the abnormal region is benign or malignant. Classification is performed based on the degree of spiculations of the identified abnormal region.
