  • Publication number: 20230276833
Abstract: Water- and energy-saving systems and methods for producing lime-cooked masa are described. Such methods generally include adding water to maize kernel in a first predetermined proportion, the maize kernel having endosperm, germ, pericarp, and tip cap components. Using a first conditioner, the maize kernel is conditioned for a first predetermined amount of time to cause moisture absorption to within a first predetermined range. The maize kernel is limed. The maize kernel is cooked, using a cooker, in an environment of steam. After the maize kernel is cooked, water is added to the maize kernel in a second predetermined proportion and, using a second conditioner, the maize kernel is conditioned for a second predetermined amount of time to cause moisture absorption to within a second predetermined range. The maize kernel is milled using one or more mills.

  • Publication number: 20220296308
Abstract: Methods and systems that identify an intrabody orientation of a directional medical device, such as a deep brain stimulation (DBS) lead, use a mesh model. The mesh model is a shape-constrained trained model of fused post-operative MRI and CT image data of brains from a set of patients defined by intensity of artifact patterns corresponding to a passive orientation marker on a physical device.

  • Publication number: 20190208791
Abstract: To address the problems inherent in creating very thin sheets of dough in a sheeting machine at high speed and with efficient recycling and re-sheeting of the re-work cut out from the sheet, a new sheeting machine with a new front roller is provided, wherein the roller includes non-stick and non-release areas and a plurality of grooves in the non-release area.

  • Publication number: 20190185277
Abstract: Some manufacturing processes include forming stacks of manufactured objects for handling and/or processing. While some such manufactured objects are consistent in thickness, other are more irregular. Some manufactured objects are generally flat, but are also generally thicker along one edge. When objects having these characteristics are stacked, the cumulative effect of such inconsistent thickness results in an unbalanced stack. The disclosed apparatus and method utilize a novel rotating stacker that rotates the stack of manufactured objects as each new object is added to the stack, thereby distributing the thickness inconsistency of individual objects throughout the stack, producing a more uniform stack without manual intervention.
