    Abstract: Improvements in an adaptable router template guide are disclosed. The router guide is adjustable for door or door jam widths of 1?, 1¾ and 2¼ with simple spring loaded stops and detents. Interchangeable and adjustable routing templates are also provided to accommodate different size and shapes of striker plates, hinge plates and door jambs. The router template further includes debris ports for removal of sawdust. In operation the router guide is set for the width of the door and secured to the door or door frame. The correct plate is installed on into the guide and the pocket is routed. The combinations of door width and template plates allows the guide to be used with numerous styles of door hardware that are both currently manufactured and may be available in the future.

    Abstract: A tape measure with laser beam (10) comprises a case (12), a laser device (70) carried in the case and capable of transmitting a laser beam therefrom, and a roll (24) of measuring tape (25) supported in the case. The measuring tape roll is disposed to be rewound into the case by a conventional spring mechanism. A one-way brake (38) is couplable to the measuring tape roll for preventing rewinding of the measuring tape back into the case. A brake override 50 permits retraction of the measuring tape into the case. A second brake (92) is adapted to hold the tape measuring roll securely in place when a pencil (86) is inserted into the case. Power supply apparati, comprising parallelly connected batteries (78), solar cells (82) and a dynamo (83), are electrically coupled to the laser for enabling laser beam transmission therefrom.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to measuring the length of a piece of wood to be cut in a miter box, a frame and trim saw, a radial saw and the like. The miter box includes a back (24) having a surface (24a) against which the piece of wood is placed and slid into position for cutting by the saw blade of the miter box. A roller (30) is positioned at and extends slightly beyond surface (24b), and is mechanically and thence electrically connected to a LCD display (54). The roller is mechanically connected to a rotary disc (42) by any suitable means, such as by a secondary roller (34) and gears or by a cord (40) and pulley mechanism. Wiper contacts 60 are slidable on and against a surface of disc (42), and are electrically connected to LCD display (54). A reset switch (68) and/or a spring switch on surface (24a) enables the reading on display (54) to be reset, for example, to 1/2" which is the distance from a starting point and the path of saw blade travel.

    Abstract: A clamp (16) has movable and fixed ledges (58, 82) extending forwardly towards one another from posts (38, 40) on the clamp's halves (34, 36). The movable ledge receives a door whose weight moves the ledge in a generally gravitaionally downward direction to move post (38) towards post (40) and to clamp the work piece therebetween. The fixed ledge is positioned in the path of movement of the door and the movable ledge to limit the movement and any excessive pressure which otherwise might be exerted on the door by the clamp halves. The clamp is mounted on a base (14) which comprises angled piping (20, 22) to form a two-dimensional support for the clamp and the door. Insulated electrical wires (22) extend through the piping. Sockets (26) are secured at one or more ends (24) of the piping, save for one, to provide electrical outlet connections for power tools. The insulated wire extends from the remaining piping end (32) for connection to a conventional electrical outlet.

    Abstract: A reciprocating sander particularly adapted for sanding remote surfaces such as ceilings and walls is provided by concentrating a substantial part of the weight of the sander in a motor assembly. A lightweight extension tube extends from the motor assembly to a universal joint which in turn is coupled to a sanding attachment. The sanding attachment includes clips which secures a piece of sandpaper in a mechanism for converting angular rotation of the universal joint into relative reciprocating motion of a sanding plate and sandpaper with respect to the sanding attachment. By bringing relative force between the sanding attachment and the motor assembly, a resiliently retained driving rod within the extension tube, which is coupled to the universal joint and sanding attachment, is forced downwardly in the extension tube toward the motor assembly. This ultimately causes two clutch parts to engage thereby permitting the transmission of the motive force to the sanding attachment.

    Abstract: The present invention is a strike template for use in combination with a hand-held router in order to guide the hand-held router in cutting an opening for a strike on a door jamb. The strike template includes a rectangular base having a substantially rectangular slot with an extended substantially rectangular tongue-cavity, a guide groove in its top surface and a replaceable guide plate disposed in the guide groove and securing mechanism which secures the rectangular base to the door jamb. The rectangular base also has a rectangular groove on its top surface with a pair of flat L-shaped members being disposed within the rectangular groove and being slidably and adjustably coupled thereto in order to vary the width of the opening for the strike.

    Abstract: The present invention is a latch face template which is used to guide a hand-held router in order to cut an opening for a latch face in the side of a door. The latch face template includes a rectangular base which has a top surface and a bottom surface and which also has a rectangular slot. A width varying mechanism varies the width of the rectangular slot and is mechanically coupled to the rectangular base. A guide stop controls the length of the opening for the latch face. A position varying mechanism varies the position of the latch face template on the side of the door. A securing mechanism secures the rectangular base to the door.
