    Abstract: A cooking appliance is disclosed that according to one embodiment includes a plurality of gas burners, an electrode associated with each burner for igniting the flame, a flame sensor associated with each burner for monitoring the flame and at least one electric switch associated with an actuator that is transitional between open and closed positions. The cooking appliance also includes a control unit electrically connected to the electrodes, the flame sensors, and the switch. When the switch assumes the closed position, the control unit is activated and then in turn powers the electrodes and the flame sensors. Thereafter, the control unit sequentially monitors the presence or absence of flame in the burners during repeated time cycles.

A gas valve is provided for each burner for regulating gas flow arriving from a gas conduit. An electromagnetic shut-off valve is arranged in the gas conduit and includes a closure member for closing the passage of gas. A control unit controls the shut-off valve. The closure member includes a stable closed position and a stable open position, the closure member changing position upon receiving electric current pulses. The push button unit is configured for pushing the closure member of the shut-off valve to the open position while at the same time activating the control unit and the electrode when the push button is pressed when the gas cooking appliance off. The control unit controls the shut-off valve by means of electric current pulses once the push button has been pressed.

The shut-off valve includes a magnetic actuator having at least one permanent magnet and a movable element, attached to the closing member, with a ferromagnetic element adhered to the permanent magnet when the closing member is in an open position. A manual actuator of the shut-off valve is configured to move the closing member to the open position. A temperature sensing device is included that has a rod that expands and shrinks with temperature changes, with one end of the rod facing the movable element. The expansion of the rod at a closing temperature causing a pushing on the ferromagnetic element, moving the closing member from the open position to the closed position.
