  • Patent number: 4812277
Abstract: Polyvinyl alcohol articles of high strength and modulus are obtained by thermoreversible gelation of a polyvinyl alcohol solution, extraction of the gelation solvent using a mixture of a low alcohol or ketone and water, followed by high stretching. Preferably, a mixture of 5-80 vol. % of acetone and 95-20 vol. % of water is used as extractant. With this process extraction times of only 3-10 minutes are required.
