Patent number: 9605758Abstract: A stroke piston for a stroke piston compressor for generating compressed air for a vehicle, such as a commercial vehicle, includes a piston body with a piston floor, a piston skirt with piston skirt walls and pin hubs for receiving a piston pin, and at least two piston rings, which can be inserted into circumferential ring grooves of the piston body. Ridges of the piston body are provided between each two ring grooves and between the piston floor and the first ring groove arranged closest to the piston floor and the ring groove arranged closest to the piston skirt facing away from the other ring groove or grooves. At least one of the ridges is recessed at least over a partial section of its ridge height, which is measured parallel to the axis of the piston body, with at least one recess relative to the diameter of the piston body.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2012Date of Patent: March 28, 2017Assignee: WABCO GmbHInventors: Volker Gniesmer, Folkhard Holzel, Christian Schwarze, Christoph Wilken

Patent number: 8960073Abstract: A cylinder head for a compressor includes a closure device that can be adjusted between an unactuated position (off-load) in which the compressor delivers air and an actuated position (off-load) in which the compressor is running in an idle mode, a pneumatic control device having a control cylinder and a control piston that can be moved in the control cylinder, a spring device that prestresses the closure device into the unactuated position (on-load), and a driver configured to couple the control piston to the closure device. The closure device closes a compressed air passage in the unactuated position (on-load) and clears the compressed air passage in the actuated position (off-load), and the driver is permanently connected to the closure device and can be driven by the control piston.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2011Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignees: WABCO Europe BVBA, WABCO Compressor Manufacturing Co.Inventors: Ramesh Pai, Michael Klatt, Folkhard Holzel

Patent number: 6109886Abstract: A compressed air installation having a normal operating mode and an idling mode includes a feed valve, a feed line which is connected to and receives air through the feed valve, at least one compressor having at least one compression chamber, and at least one inlet valve which is connected to the feed line and supplies air to the compression chamber. The feed valve and the inlet valve are switchable between open positions and one-way positions wherein air can pass through the valve in one direction only. In normal operating mode, the feed valve is in its open position and the inlet valve is in its one-way position, thereby allowing air to enter and exit the installation through the feed valve and the feed line, and to pass from the feed line through the inlet valve into the compression chamber.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1998Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Assignee: WABCO GmbHInventors: Kark Heinrich Schonfeld, Folkhard Holzel

Patent number: 6056516Abstract: An installation for the production of pressure has three operating states corresponding to a delivery operation, an idle operation, and a partial delivery operation. The installation contains at least two compression chambers in at least one compressor, each chamber being assigned at least one switchable inlet valve. In the delivery operation, the switchable inlet valves act as check-valves that allow pressure medium to flow into their respective compression chambers. Each compression chamber also contains at least one outlet check valve through which compressed pressure medium flows out to a pressure consuming system in the delivery operation. Each switchable inlet valve also has an idling position that allows pressure medium to flow into the applicable compression chamber and back out again without being substantially compressed. In the idle operation of the installation, each switchable inlet valve switches to its idling position.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1997Date of Patent: May 2, 2000Assignee: WABCO Standard GmbHInventors: Karl Heinrich Schonfeld, Folkhard Holzel

Patent number: 6039072Abstract: A safety valve arrangement for an installation operating with a pressure medium has a pressure medium input and a pressure medium output connected by a valve. The valve comprises a valve seat and a valve closing element. The valve closing element is moveable between an open position and a closed position and has an active surface that is subjected to the pressure medium in the opening direction of the valve. The valve closing element also has an auxiliary surface that is subjected to the pressure medium in the opening direction of the valve only when the valve closing element is lifted from the valve seat. A spring arrangement holds the valve closing element closed and the valve closing element moves from a closed position to an open position when the pressure medium acting upon the valve closing element is greater than the opposing force of the spring arrangement acting upon the valve closing element.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1997Date of Patent: March 21, 2000Assignee: WABCO GmbHInventors: Folkhard Holzel, Manfred Kramer, Jens Tiedemann
