    Abstract: A side-by-side refrigerator includes a cabinet defining fresh food and freezer compartments, each having upper and lower sections which vary in width and volume along with corresponding fresh food and freezer doors that vary in width. The fresh food and freezer compartments are spaced by an offset mullion assembly against which the doors seal. The offset mullion assembly includes a first longitudinal member, a second longitudinal member, a brace having first and second legs and a laterally extending portion and a cosmetic cover. The offset mullion assembly provides strength to the cabinet while providing an aesthetically pleasing and uniform sealing surface for the fresh food and freezer doors.

    Abstract: A repositionable rail system for a refrigerator includes first and second rails, each rail having a plurality of spaced-apart apertures. A crossbar has first and second ends adapted to fit within respective apertures on the first and second rails. After inserting the crossbar into the apertures, the crossbar is rotated to a fixed angled position. A half-width shelf having a hook is adapted to removably supported, in a cantilevered manner, by the crossbar. The half-width shelf can be slid along the crossbar for repositioning within the refrigerator cabinet, or may be placed alongside another half-width shelf on a crossbar, or replaced with a full width shelf mounted on the first and second rails in a corresponding, cantilevered manner.

    Abstract: A one-piece frame for a refrigerator shelf is produced from a planar blank having first and second side members that extend at an angle from a central cross member. The side members are folded along bend zones located between each of the first and second side members and the cross member such that, once folded, the first and second side members extend outward from the cross member forming a three-sided frame. At this point, edge portions of the first and second side members are folded along additional bend zones to form upper flanges. Preferably, an upper edge portion of the cross member is folded along still another bend zone to form a hook element. The hook element is designed to engage with a shelf support member provided in the refrigerated compartment such that the shelf frame is supported in a cantilevered manner.

    Abstract: A refrigerator includes a vertically and/or laterally adjustable lighted shelf assembly. The shelf assembly is supported by a shelf support rail arranged in the refrigerator. First and second contact strips are mounted to the shelf support rail and electrically connected to a voltage source in the refrigerator. The shelf assembly includes a mounting member for attaching the shelf to the shelf support rail. The mounting member includes a first terminal strip and a second terminal strip. With this arrangement, when the shelf member is supported by the shelf support rail, the first and second terminal strips automatically engage with the first and second contact strips to complete an electrical circuit for powering the light unit. The electrical connection remains intact upon laterally shifting the shelf assembly on the shelf support rail.

    Abstract: A bidirectional slide lock includes a first clip and a second clip that are slid and locked together. The first clip has a longitudinal axis, a pair of pawls, and a pair of flanges. The second clip has a longitudinal axis, a pair of pawl stops, and a pair of clip flanges. Both pair of flanges retentively engaging one another to hold the clips together to prevent movement away from one another. The pawls engage the pawl stops to hold clips against longitudinal movement. The bidirectional slide lock also has springs biasing the pawls toward the second clip so as to retain pawls in retentive engagement with the pawl stops. The method of use includes moving the first and second clips longitudinally relative to one another so that the flanges move into retentive engagement and cause each of the pawl ends to engage one of the pawl stops.

    Abstract: A cabinet includes a decorative corner cover for concealing unfinished corner regions of the cabinet. The cabinet includes laterally spaced side walls that are joined by a top wall to form corner regions having an opening. The cover member includes a main body having first and second ends with the first end having a tab element that projects substantially perpendicularly from the main body portion. The tab element is preferably cylindrical and formed with a longitudinal slot that creates a radial spring. The tab element further includes a hook member integrally formed with the cylindrical element. The cylindrical element is inserted into the opening so that the hook member engages with the cabinet. The radial spring provides a biasing force that retains the cover in place. Preferably, the opening is constituted by a slot providing additional gripping surfaces for the hook member.

    Abstract: Methods and devices for retaining a heating element, such as warm refrigerant tubing, within a refrigerator cabinet. Semispherical raised dimples are formed upon a retaining panel in a rolled triple flange. The dimples are intermittently positioned along the retaining panel and maintain the warm refrigerant tubing in intimate surface contact with the exterior surface panel of the refrigerator. The raised dimples preclude significant intimate surface contact between the retaining panel and the tubing and permit insulating foam to be disposed between the two so that heat transfer is minimized. A dimpled flange arrangement is also used to retain tubing within a mullion. A sheet metal insert is also described that is formed having two retaining panels with raised dimples thereupon that maintain the tubing in intimate surface contact with the exterior surface panel that forms the facing for the mullion.

    Abstract: An enclosure has a door, a cabinet, an aligning pin attached to the cabinet, and a door hinge removably attached to the cabinet. The door hinge is arranged to receive the aligning pin so as to positively align the door hinge on the cabinet, and the door hinge is arranged to mount the door in opened and closed positions to the cabinet. The aligning pin may be directionally biased in order to mate with a directionally biased recess in the door hinge. The aligning pin may be a pair of pins to mate with a correspondingly pair of recesses in the door hinge.
