  • Patent number: 5911336
Abstract: It is described a vacuum stabilizing device comprising a holder (100) impermeable to gases, in the form of a box open at its upper end, with edges folded and prolonged outwards to form a peripheral "wing" (104); a getter material (110) in the lower part of holder (100) inside a lower volume (II) defined by the bottom of the holder and by a lower septum (120), permeable to gases; a dryer material (130) is an upper volume (I) defined by said septum (120) and by a second upper septum (140) permeable to gases. A film (150) of a material impermeable to gases is hermetically fixed to the external part of wing (104), as to seal the whole device. A few methods for producing the device are also described.

  • Patent number: 5772404
Abstract: A compact getter pump, compatible with size limitations of portable apparatus is described. In one embodiment a getter device and a heating apparatus capable of heating getter elements to a desired temperature, are contained within a thermally insulating housing comprised of a plurality of nested thermally insulating shields with an open end. The open end of at least one of the shields is covered with a particle trap. In another embodiment, each of the nested thermally insulating shields is of a substantially cylindrical shape and is substantially coaxially disposed along an axis defined by the heating apparatus. In one embodiment a plurality of getter elements and a heating apparatus are enclosed by three nested evenly spaced cylindrical metal shields that have open ends and are coaxially disposed along an axis defined by the getter elements and the heating apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5600957
Abstract: A device for maintaining a vacuum in a thermally insulating jacket is described. The device comprises a container formed of a gas-tight material, preferably aluminum, which has an opening to the atmosphere. Inside the container is a first pellet comprising a powder of a Ba-Li alloy getter material. Arranged above, and completely covering, the first pellet is a second pellet comprising a powder of a drying material, optionally including the oxide of a noble metal and a material to prevent contraction of the drier. A process for manufacturing such a device is also described in which the first pellet is obtained by compression of its constituent powders at a pressure between about 30 bar and 1000 bar.
