Abstract: A bath scale of the type having a platform supported by force gathering levers carried by a base pan is made of reduced height through the use of a compression load spring and a molded plastic support which mounts the indicator dial, the calibration mechanism and the linkage which interconnects the load spring and the pinion for the indicator dial.

Abstract: A bathroom platform scale is disclosed having a reinforced plastic base and platform. The platform is carried by a pair of triangular-shaped actuation levers which directly engage a single transducer, such as a strain gauge, centrally located in the base, to sense the weight on the platform. Such an arrangement allows for a relatively compact scale. The triangular-shaped levers are supported by knife edge bearings which define a fulcrum. An integrally formed tongue extending from an apex from each of the triangular-shaped levers applies the weight distributed on the platform to the transducer. The triangular-shaped actuation levers are also self-aligning, thus facilitating assembly of the scale.

Abstract: A chest high balance beam scale including balance indication means on the head of the scale which is observable from above to allow the user to determine when the beam of the scale is in balance. The head portion of the scale is fabricated of molded plastic with the balance beam being a rectangular frame which forms part of an enclosure for the balance weights and balance indicator.

Abstract: A beam scale includes a single weight mounted on a balance beam which is movable to selected positions to establish ranges of weights to be measured. The beam is supported by a flexible member to which a strain gage mechanism is secured to provide a vernier weight signal. The electronic circuitry associated with the scale receives signals indicative of the adjustable weight position and indicative of the deflection of the beam supporting member and totalizes these signals to produce and display a number indicative of the weight applied to the scale. The scale permits the user operator to perform a simple calibration procedure which guarantees the accuracy of subsequent measurements by zeroing the scale and calibrating it between the zero and fifty pound setting of the adjustable weight. This provides a balance beam scale which has greater accuracy than conventional mechanical balance beam scales and is far easier to use, particularly by an untrained person.
