  • Patent number: 4224312
Abstract: The castor based quaternaries of the instant invention are prepared by condensing a castor fatty acid with the amino protons of a diamine containing a tertiary amino group at one end to form an intermediate product and then quaternizing the intermediate product.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 23, 1978
Date of Patent: September 23, 1980
    Assignee: NL Industries, Inc.
Inventors: Murray C. Cooperman, Francis Duneczky, Francis C. Naughton, Robert W. White

  • Patent number: 4210572
Abstract: Novel thermosetting resin composites containing an inorganic filler material and a coupling agent are provided which include a coupling agent selected from the group consisting of (1) mono-, di-, and tri-long chain fatty acid esters of C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 mono and polyhydric alcohols; (2) polyoxyalkylene glycols and mono alkyl ethers of polyoxyalkylene glycols; and (3) polyoxyethylene derivatives of mono-, di-, and tri-hydroxy fatty acid esters of C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 mono- and polyhydric alcohols. The novel coupling agents are particularly useful in reducing the viscosity of highly loaded filler-prepolymer pastes to improve the dispersion of the filler and to promote interaction between the filler and the prepolymer so as to maintain and/or improve the properties of the final cured resins.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 29, 1978
Date of Patent: July 1, 1980

  • Patent number: 4200565
Abstract: Novel thermosetting resin composites containing an inorganic mineral filler and a coupling agent are provided which include a coupling agent comprising a multifunctional hydroxl bearing hydrocarbon which has been at least partially acetylated. The novel coupling agents are particularly useful in reducing the viscosity of the resin-filler blend, thus resulting in better handling characteristics and lower energy requirements for the mechanical processing of the composite blends. The composites incorporating the coupling agents disclosed are particularly useful in the production of laminating resins for use in spray-laminate operations, as well as in the manufacture of fiber glass reinforced sheet-molding compounds (SMC) and bulk-molding compounds (BMC).
