  • Patent number: 7266723
Abstract: In the absence of a continuous channel from the mobile terminal that incorporates a CRC in each transmitted frame from which the base station can derive a power control signal for feedback to the mobile station for maintaining the mobile station's pilot Eb/N0 level at a desired target that corresponds to a particular frame error rate, the pilot signal received by the base station from the mobile terminal itself is arranged in a frame format. Each pilot frame is compared with an a prioi known transmitted pilot signal bit pattern to determine whether it has been received in error. In response to a comparison of a received pilot frame with the expected known bit pattern of the pilot frame, an error signal is derived, which in the described embodiment is either a step-up or step-down signal that is fed back to the mobile terminal to increase or decrease its transmitted pilot Eb/N0 level, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20070147548
Abstract: In a method for determining a transmitted data rate, a received data frame may be decoded using different candidate rates to generate a first decoded bit sequence associated with each candidate rate. A first frame quality indicator and a first error metric may be generated for each of the candidate rates based on the associated first decoded bit sequence and a decoding metric for the associated first decoded bit sequence. One of the candidate rates may be selected as the transmitted data rate based on the first frame quality indicators, the first error metrics and an error metric threshold.

  • Publication number: 20070149201
Abstract: A method of adjusting a power level of communications over a channel in a wireless communications network. In the method, a determination (e.g., by a radio network controller (RNC)) is made regarding a number of base stations actively communicating with a mobile station. For example, the determination may indicate whether the mobile station is engaged in soft handoff or simplex mode. One of a plurality of power control algorithms (e.g., a fixed offset power control algorithm, a channel quality indicator (CQI) power control algorithm, etc.) is selected based on the determination. A power level of communications over the channel (e.g., a downlink communications channel to the mobile station) is then adjusted in accordance with the selected power control algorithm.

  • Publication number: 20070098115
Abstract: A plurality of decoding metrics for a current frame may be generated based on a correlation set for a current frame and a correlation set for at least one previous frame. Whether a signal is present on a control channel may then be determined based on the generated decoding metrics.

  • Publication number: 20070071070
Abstract: A receiver device for use in a wireless communication system (20) includes a rake receiver (32) and an equalizer receiver (34). A controller (36) selects one of the rake receiver (32) or the equalizer receiver (34) for processing a received signal. In some situations, the rake receiver (32) will provide better performance. In other situations, the equalizer receiver (34) will provide better performance. One embodiment includes a plurality of equalizers (34A, 34B). One of the equalizers processes a data packet from a received signal while another one of the equalizers trains for processing a signal from a subsequent scheduled user. Another example embodiment includes controlling an equalizer length based on a delay span or another selected channel metric.

  • Publication number: 20070032196
Abstract: In one embodiment of the method, a channel quality metric for a first subframe is estimated based at least in part on a channel quality metric for a previous subframe, and a channel quality metric for a second subframe is estimated based at least in part on the channel quality metric for the previous subframe. Here, the second subframe is later in time than the first subframe. Then, a channel quality metric for a time slot located between the first and second subframes is estimated based on the channel quality metrics for the first and second subframes.

  • Publication number: 20060229096
Abstract: In a method of controlling transmit power for a user call migrating between a first entity and a second entity in a base station of a wireless communication system, power control may be performed, as a call of the user is migrated from the first to the second entity, or vice versa, based on an adjustment ratio value. • Publication number: 20060223446
Abstract: In a method of detecting a mobile station that is not following a power control command, for each time slot, a received signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) value of the mobile as measured by a given base station is compared with a given average SIR target value. An error metric may be generated for each slot based on a difference between the measured SIR and average SIR target values. The generated error metrics may be averaged over a given time duration to determine at least one (or more) average error value(s), and the mobile station is determined as violating a power control command if the at least one or more average error value(s) exceed a given threshold.
