  • Patent number: 5540850
Abstract: A fabric treatment composition contains at least a detergent active material, a fabric softening agent and 0.5 to 3% a nonionic substituted cellulose ether derivative which has an HLB of 3.1 to 4.3 and a gel point of less than 58.degree. C., which improve softening performances on cotton while controlling deposition on synthetic fabrics. Ethyl, hydroxyethyl or methyl hydroxyethyl cellulose ethers are preferred. The detergent active material is anionic or a mixture thereof with other detergent active materials and may be present at 2 to 50% of the composition. The softening agent may be soap, a cationic material, a fatty amine and/or a clay with a soap/cationic mixture being preferred, and may be present at 0.5 to 50% of the composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 8, 1994
Date of Patent: July 30, 1996
Assignee: Lever Brothers Company, Division of Conopco, Inc.

  • Patent number: 5128055
Abstract: A fabric conditioning composition in solid or liquid form contains a non-cationic softening agent and a nonionic cellulose ether derivative to improve deposition of the softener on fabrics. Preferred derivatives have a gel point below 55.degree. C. and an HLB of less than 3.6. Ethyl, hydroxylethyl cellulose ether is preferred. The exemplified softeners are soaps, petroleum jelly, glycerol monostearate. A cationic softener such as a quaternary ammonium salt may optionally be present. When the compositions are in liquid form the presence of a dispersing aid is preferred.

  • Patent number: 5104555
Abstract: A fabric treatment composition comprising(i) a polysiloxane textile treatment agent;(ii) a water-soluble nonionic cellulose ether having an HLB between 3.0 and 4.3, and a gel point of less than 58.degree. C. provided that the cellulose ether contains substantially no hydroxyalkyl groups containing 3 or more carbon atoms.

  • Patent number: 5009800
Abstract: A particulate fabric softening additive for detergent compositions comprises (a) a cellulose ether and (b) an organic fabric softener in intimate mixture. The weight ratio of (a) to (b) is from 1:1 to 0.06:1, such as from 1:4 to 1:9. Component (a) is nonionic, water-soluble with an HLB of 3.3 to 3.8 and a gel point of 33.degree. C. to 56.degree. C. Some commercial alkyl, hydroxyalkyl derivatives satisfying these conditions are disclosed. Component (b) may be a conventional quaternary ammonium salt. By forming these components into an intimate particulate mixture, softening performance is improved.

  • Patent number: 4333844
Abstract: A particulate alkaline detergent composition is disclosed which is suitable for washing fabrics and exhibiting good detergency, stability and bleaching while the level of inorganic material deposited on the fabrics is at an acceptably low level. The composition comprises a synthetic detergent active, a mixture of tripolyphosphate and orthophosphate in the ratio of 20:1 to 3:1 and a mixture of a peroxygen bleach such as perborate and a bleach activator such as tetraacetylethylenediamine. The phosphates constitute from 10 to 40% of the composition while the bleach system constitutes from 5 to 30%. The amount of pyrophosphate, if any, should be kept below 5%. Soap may be added to the composition. The compositions may be prepared by mixing the bleach system and optionally the alkali metal phosphate with a spray dried powder containing the remaining constituents.
