  • Publication number: 20020073479
Abstract: A protective hood molded to the contours of the interior of an aircrew helmet. The brow pad and a support panel are located within the protective hood. The custom fitting system, that adjusts the position of the support panel relative to the helmet, is located outside the hood. The custom fitting system is pivotally connected to the support panel, with the protective hood sealed around the pivotal connection. The brow pad and support panel lift the hood off the wearer's head, providing a gap to circulate ventilating air.

  • Patent number: 6279172
Abstract: A fitting assembly for a helmet having an interiorly located forehead dome and side sections. A crown pad provided with adjusting straps engages retention clips on the side sections to set the vertical position of the helmet. A nape panel provided with adjusting straps engages additional retention clips on the side sections to set the fore and aft position of the helmet. A pouch is fitted into the gap created between the dome and the forehead. A liquid foam is introduced into the pouch which expands and solidifies thereby creating a mold of the wearer's forehead. The pouch, nape panel and chip strap or breathing mask serve to lock the helmet in position on the wearer's head.

  • Patent number: 5396661
Abstract: A helmet visor operating mechanism in which springs urge the rolling elements of respective pairs of rolling elements toward relatively smaller radial dimension spaces between a brake ring carried by the visor and an axle carried by the helmet shell to lock the visor against movement toward its raised position and against movement toward its lowered position. Respective actuators mounted for rotary movement on the axle have pairs of tangs extending into the space between the axle and the ring and between the rolling elements of the respective pairs. Outwardly extending tabs can be squeezed together to cause the tangs to move the rolling elements of the pairs away from each other against the action of the springs to unlock the visor and permit it to be raised or lowered by subsequent movement of the tabs in the same direction.

  • Patent number: 5230101
Abstract: A dual visor operating mechanism in which respective locks disposed between inner and outer visor arm hubs and respective right and left arbors normally prevent movement of the visors in response to force applied directly thereto and in which respective inner and outer visor actuators sequentially release their associated brakes and then move the visors therewith. Brakes prevent movement of the visors after release of the associated lock and before the corresponding visor moves with the actuator.

  • Patent number: 5226181
Abstract: Apparatus for detachably securing a night vision goggle mount to a protective helmet visor housing in which the heads of a pair of upper fasteners carried by the mount are adapted to be inserted through the head receiving portions of a pair of upper keyhole slots in a base plate on the housing against the action of a leaf spring on the plate. When the shanks of the fasteners are moved into the lower head-retaining portions of the upper slots, the upper fastener heads are held by ears on the leaf spring to lock the mount. A releasing element on the base plate is adapted to be actuated to flex the spring to a position at which the spring ears are clear of the upper fastener heads to permit the mount to be removed. Preferably, a pair of lower fasteners having heads and a pair of corresponding lower keyhole slots are provided to insure stability and alignment of the night vision goggle mount.

  • Patent number: 5113535
Abstract: A dual visor and helmet assembly in which inner and outer visors mounted on arbors secured to opposite sides of the helmet for movement between operative and inoperative positions are clamped respectively to one and to the other of the arbors by pre-loaded C-rings coupled to the visors. Respective manually actuatable operating rings on the visors may be actuated to release the clamping forces of the C-rings and to move the visors between their operative and inoperative positions.
