  • Patent number: 4289538
Abstract: The method of providing a mechanically strong, hermetic seal, for sealing glass-ceramic articles particularly MACOR.RTM. brand machinable glass-ceramics, which seal is capable of withstanding heating in a vacuum to a temperature of up to 900.degree. C. without foaming. The forming of the seal comprises reacting from 0.5-3.0 wt.% antimony metal powder with a devitrifiable glass frit having a coefficient of thermal expansion compatible with the materials being sealed and a melting point of >930.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4083728
Abstract: This invention relates to a low temperature method for making and forming silicate glass bodies from reaction mixtures of soluble silicates and/or colloidal silicates and organic compounds wherein the formed reacted body is fired at elevated temperatures below the deformation point of the particular glass composition for a sufficient length of time to convert it to a glass body having a structural configuration similar to that of the formed body.

  • Patent number: 3981657
Abstract: Plastically moldable ceramic batch material, which may be flowably extruded under pressure into a self-supporting article of desired shape and configuration, is passed through a flow homogenizer positioned within an extrusion cylinder upstream of an article-forming extrusion die positioned on the discharge end of the extrusion cylinder, to thoroughly homogenize such batch material during the extrusion operation and prior to being fed through the article-forming die.
