  • Patent number: 8503036
Abstract: A system and method of reducing noise in output image data is provided. Grayscale image data having a plurality of pixels is received and processed. During processing, pixels which may produce noise are identified, and a mask associated with the image data is generated. The mask provides information related to the pixels, such as opaque and transparent regions for overlaying the pixels. The image data and the mask are compressed and stored. The mask assists in preventing the identified pixels from being visible when the image data is output, thereby reducing the noise in the image.

  • Patent number: 8180164
Abstract: An image processing method in which OCR is used to guide the text tokenization. More particularly, OCR is first performed on each symbol in the scanned image. For example, a symbol may be a number, letter, or other character. During the tokenization process, the OCR results are used to select appropriate matching criteria for each symbol. The symbols that are recognized as different characters are not allowed to be clustered into the same group. The symbols with the same OCR results are clustered according to the recognition confidence levels.

  • Patent number: 8130389
Abstract: A method and apparatus for configuring an image path of an image processing apparatus is herein described. The image processing apparatus includes at least an input terminal or scanner for inputting or scanning document into image data and an output terminal or printer for printing documents. The method includes selecting one of a plurality of output modes using a selection device associated with the image processing apparatus. Based on the selected output mode, an image path among a plurality of image processing elements of the apparatus is selected among a plurality of image paths. Each image path corresponds to one of the plurality of output modes. After a document is scanned with the scanner into image data, the image data is processed with the processing elements in the selected image path, and output or printed based on the processed image data.

  • Patent number: 7991235
Abstract: A light compression method that error diffuses image data provided with luminance and chrominance channels. During error diffusion, a higher number of bits are allocated to the luminance channel. A decompression method for the image data based on sigma filtering is also provided. • Publication number: 20070258101
Abstract: A method and system reconstructs a contone image from a binary image by first tagging pixels to identify one of a multiplicity of image content types. The tag information and the pattern of bits surrounding the pixel to be converted to a contone value are used to reconstruct a contone image from a binary image. The pattern of bits in the neighborhood is used to generate a unique identifier. The unique identifier is used as the address for a lookup table with the contone value to be used wherein each lookup table corresponds to an image context type.

  • Publication number: 20070134037
Abstract: Embodiments herein observe the backing of the document handler to determine if a document was left on the platen and would block the scan head from scanning the documents as they are moved by the document handler. An embodiment herein comprises a transparent platen and a document handler on a first side of the platen. The document handler has a backing, and the backing is adapted to move media within the document handler. A scan head is positioned on a second side of the platen. The scan head remains stationary when scanning the media being moved by the document handler and the scan head moves when scanning media on the platen. The backing of the document handler has a surface that is distinguishable from the media such that the scan head can detect whether the media is on the platen and would block the scan head from scanning the media being moved by the document handler.

  • Publication number: 20070103731
Abstract: A method and system to convert an image described in a page description language to a contone image. The contone image is halftoned and encoded to generate image data including edge tag data and image data. A tagged state value of each pixel of image data within a predefined neighborhood of pixels is determined. The image data is filtered using a predetermined set of filter weighting values wherein each pixel of image data within the predefined neighborhood of pixels has an associated filter weighting value. A predetermined filtered image value is assigned to each pixel having a tagged state indicating an edge pixel. A summation of all filtered image values for the predefined neighborhood of pixels is assigned when the tagged state of the pixel is a non-edge pixel.

  • Publication number: 20070031061
Abstract: Training sets consisting of pairs of input images and desired images can be used to produce maps intended for future use in transforming input images into final images. The maps, however, often have improper elements based on incomplete or noisy data. The noisy data and incomplete can be identified via statistics derived from the training set. The map can output a code value instead of a substitution for an improper element. An additional stage of image transformation can identify improper pixels having the code value and replace the code value with an analytic value that is more appropriate.
