  • Publication number: 20230330670
Abstract: The present invention refers to a microfluidic system based on passive capillary valves and pumps, that allows a discontinuous and autonomous measurement process for extensive periods of time. The microfluidic system comprises: at least one measuring chamber, at least one inlet for the input of a biofluid, a microfluidic intake channel fluidly communicating the inlet with the measuring chamber, at least one sensor suitable for measuring a parameter of an analyte of a biofluid. A passive fluid pump is fluidly communicated with the measuring chamber, and it is adapted to generate a capillary pressure greater than the biofluid generation pressure. A retention valve is interposed between the measuring chamber and the fluid pump, and the retention passive valve is configured to stop flow of biofluid for a certain period of time, when the measuring chamber if filled with biofluid.

  • Publication number: 20150153332
Abstract: The invention relates to a disposable diagnostic card for detecting an analyte in a fluid sample, comprising a base with a support surface for supporting a reagent strip and a sample receiving chamber; and a cover placed tightly on the base with an opening over the chamber of the base for introducing the sample, and a window over part of the reagent strip for observing a reaction thereon. An end of the reagent strip is bent and inserted into the sample receiving chamber, the sample in the chamber being movable by capillary action through the reagent strip from said bent end. The invention also relates to an electronic reading device having a housing for inserting a diagnostic card, optical reading means for reading a change in color on the reagent strip, and display means for visually presenting the results of the reading.

  • Publication number: 20110053144
Abstract: The process, system and device being claimed are based on the measurement of the changes in impedance produced in the interface of an electrode whereonto bacteria from a host strain have been previously adhered for detecting the desired bacteriophage. The changes produced in said electrode-bacteria interface originate in the phagic action of the bacteriophages on the bacteria adhered onto the surface of the work electrode of a microelectronic sensor device.

  • Publication number: 20110035157
Abstract: The invention relates to devices and methods for measuring a concentration of a biomass suspended in a medium. Embodiments of the device include a substrate capable of being immersed in the medium, at least two electrodes integrated in the substrate, and a processing and control circuit electromagnetically coupled to the at least two electrodes. The processing and control circuit is configured to apply an electrical potential to the at least two electrodes, the applied electrical potential generating a stationary electric charge that leads to the appearance of an electrical double layer on a surface of one of the at least two electrodes and that causes a biomass electrostatic adhesion on the surface, measure a change in capacitance of the electrical double layer in response to the biomass electrostatic adhesion, and determine the concentration of the biomass using a calibration curve that correlates the change in capacitance with the concentration.
