  • Publication number: 20210284481
Abstract: Apparatus and method for the making of a pressure-sensitive adhesive stock for labels using a label production line, are disclosed. The stock comprises a first layer of facestock material configured to be die-cut to form the stock of labels surrounded by a matrix, the first layer being backed by a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive, which in turn is covered by a release liner. 5 The apparatus and method allow the matrix of the facestock to be peeled-off from the release liner on the label production line without stopping the label production line by merely slowing down the label production line. A pressure-sensitive adhesive stock free of the matrix of the facestock is therefore produced without lowering production yields.

  • Patent number: 9782904
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for cutting a facestock on a liner. An anvil roller receives facestock on liner. A cutting roller, under a force, cuts facestock between the cutting roller and the anvil roller. At least one support roller supports the cutting roller and, optionally, the anvil roller, thereby distributing the force into two or more portions and/or subportions, in two or more directions. Apparatuses, methods and kits for preparing a cutting surface of a cutting roller in a facestock cutting apparatus, or for extending the usefulness of a cutting roller. An equalizer roller is provided in a position adjacent to the cutting roller. The equalizer roller has an equalizing surface having a hardness at least as hard as a hardness of the cutting surface. The cutting roller is rotated against the equalizer roller such that the cutting surface is equalized by the equalizing surface.

  • Publication number: 20170174463
Abstract: A roll of labels, each of the labels having a label side and an adhesive side, the roll comprising a stack of partially overlapping labels winded around a core structure. The label side of the first label of the stack, closest to the core structure, is on top of the stack. The roll also comprises a liner provided under a non-overlapping portion on the adhesive side of the partially overlapping labels. A method, and an apparatus, for stacking labels comprising conveying a plurality of individual labels at a first speed and transferring each of the plurality of individual labels to form a stack of labels running at a second speed lower than the first speed, thereby causing the transferred labels to be stacked in a partially overlapping configuration.

  • Patent number: 9259907
Abstract: A first process for making labels comprises the steps of feeding a laminated combination of a face stock and a process liner to a cutting station such as a microperforator or die-cutter and thereafter stripping the process liner from the face stock and further processing the face stock. The process liner may be recycled and reused. A second method includes all of the steps described above along with the further step of laminating the cut or perforated face stock, immediately after stripping off the process liner, to a second lighter liner which carries the face stock, minus the web or matrix of waste material, to a roller. A complete description of the machinery is given herein.

  • Publication number: 20130059106
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method and an apparatus for producing self-adhesive labels. The method and apparatus laminate a liner-less facestock comprising self-adhesive labels to a reusable liner. The facestock has an adhesive side and a non-adhesive side. The adhesive side of the facestock is in contact with the reusable liner. Then, the facestock is cut around the self-adhesive labels. Waste facestock is separated from the reusable liner. The self-adhesive labels are extracted from the reusable liner, and the reusable liner is collected. A self-adhesive label product is also disclosed. The self-adhesive labels may be applied on receiving surfaces, for example on bottles, on cans, and the like.

  • Patent number: 7608161
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making adhesive-backed labels. Glassine paper stock is unwound from a roll, coated with photo-cationic silicone and exposed to wavelength-controlled illumination to cure. Hot melt adhesive is applied over the silicone. Simultaneously, label stock is fed with the coated glassine paper to laminating rollers where the two are joined. Illumination is provided by a dichroic reflector.
