Publication number: 20140298369Abstract: System and method for providing clear screen TV broadcasting to subscribed users. Two signals are provided by the broadcasters for the same channel: a mixed signal that includes the main program and additional content to overlap portions of the main program on the display, and a clear screen signal which includes only the main program. By default, decoding machines e.g. STB at the user's location, are adapted to decode the mixed signal to output on the display the main program and the additional content. The embodiments provide a mechanism to provide the additional content separately to subscribed users and switch the decoding at the STB to the clear screen mode for decoding and outputting the clear TV signal instead of the mixed signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 2, 2014Publication date: October 2, 2014Inventor: Jean-François Gagnon

Patent number: 8699615Abstract: There is described the use of Digital Radio Frequency Memory (DRFM) modules to jam certain communication signals while allowing others to be received on a given frequency band. The DRFM modules exploit the multi-path phenomenon by using transmitted signals to cause full band destructive echoes and/or distortions. A set of receivers used in conjunction with the DRFM modules are aware of the exact multi-path induced by the DRFM modules and are therefore able to mitigate or even benefit from the effects of the destructive multi-path and maintain or improve communications.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 2011Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignee: Ultra Electronics TCS Inc.Inventors: Denis Couillard, François Gagnon

Patent number: 8447283Abstract: A system and method for optimization of media objects for delivery to one of a plurality of mobile communication devices of different types and rendering thereon. In particular, the media objects are optimized according to the mobile device's characteristics to ensure efficient delivery and optimal rendering thereon. For this purpose, an optimized output of the media object is determined at a first stage. At a subsequent stage, based on the mobile device type, the characteristics of the object to be delivered are then adjusted to conform to those of the predetermined optimized output, thus ensuring that the rendering of the optimized media object on the mobile device output is of high quality.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2011Date of Patent: May 21, 2013Assignee: Lipso Systemes Inc.Inventors: Vivianne Gravel, François Gagnon, Francis Beaulieu, Benoit Chatelain, Olivier Munger

Patent number: 8407374Abstract: Intelligent resource state memory recall techniques, and associated apparatus and methods, are disclosed. States of one or more video switcher resources in a resource state memory may be recalled to the same or different resources, depending on resource availability at the time of memory recall. A memory recall need not affect an on air signal. The memory may be recalled to recreate a desired program output, as defined in the memory, on a preview output of the video switcher, which leaves a current program output of the video switcher undisturbed when the memory is recalled.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2010Date of Patent: March 26, 2013Assignee: Ross Video LimitedInventors: David Allan Ross, Leslie Vincent O'Reilly, Troy David English, Alun John Fryer, Steven Martin Robinson, Gerald Edwin Coldwell, Jean-Francois Gagnon

Publication number: 20120198829Abstract: The present invention is relates to the production of electricity by the integration of a network of kinetic energy sources. The purpose of the propose embodiments is to convert a plurality of energy sources of different potential to one hydraulic source that will be leveled by hydraulic compensator. The objective is to offer a stable electricity source. All the incoming fluids are joint in a unique energy flow prior to the hydraulic motors that gone to drive the generators. The incoming fluid is regulate at constant pressure and flow to the hydraulic motor, the incoming variation of flow and pressure is regulate by and hydraulic compensator. The generator is drive by a network of hydraulic motors that can supply many levels of power with the same rotation speed. The rotation of the main shaft that joint the hydraulic motors and the electric generator is keep constant by a flywheel equip with an electronic micro break.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 4, 2011Publication date: August 9, 2012Inventor: Francois Gagnon

Publication number: 20120080884Abstract: The present invention is base on aerodynamic flows and turbulences that surround tall building under various wind conditions. When buildings are relatively tall, there is more airflow surrounding their walls than over it. When the wind reach in angle a surface of a building, this wind will generally slide on this face to the end of it. As all the wind that come to that surface will run to the same ending point, there will be an important concentration of wind at this point. On the other hand, the following wall will receive no wind and will be under low pressure. This is a perfect location for wind turbine, and the first object of our invention.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2011Publication date: April 5, 2012Inventor: Francois Gagnon

Patent number: 7948963Abstract: The present invention provides for a method that could be advantageously implemented in a satellite local area network (LAN) in which an average number of sites share a TDMA link. The invention provides for both a dedicated bandwidth to all the sites and a shared bandwidth that is dynamically assigned to the sites, therefore allowing for both synchronous traffic and for on request burst mode traffic. The method includes a reservation method of this shared bandwidth which is specially optimized for a satellite link. The method provides also for a network that automatically managed its communication bandwidth resources and the synchronization of the sites, without the need of an external controller. The present invention also provides for a satellite modem to transmit data from a site, to receive data from the sites and to manage the bandwidth resources of the TDMA satellite in accordance with the above method.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2006Date of Patent: May 24, 2011Assignee: Ecole de Technologie SuperieureInventors: Patrick Rioux, Naïm Batani, François Gagnon, Jean Belzile
