    Abstract: Requesting a network resource includes facilitating a communication session between a mobile node and an endpoint. A trigger event is received at a first anchor point associated with the mobile node. The trigger event indicates that reservation of a network resource is being requested for the communication session. A second anchor point associated with the endpoint is identified. Reservation of the network resources for the communication sessions is initiated over a tunnel between the first anchor point and the second anchor point.

  • Method and system for providing voice QoS during network failure

    Abstract: A method and system for providing QoS in a network after a network failure are disclosed. The network includes at least one primary tunnel and at least one backup tunnel protecting a segment of the primary tunnel. The method includes receiving notification of a failure within the primary tunnel segment and rerouting received packets onto the backup tunnel. The rerouted packets are marked to identify packets affected by the failure and are subject to a different QoS policy than packets that have not been rerouted due to the failure.

  • Hierarchical multi-rate multi-precedence policer

    Abstract: A hierarchical multi-rate multi-precedence policer is disclosed. The policer discards packets based on assigned precedence levels. When traffic exceeds an available service rate, the policer drops packets of lower precedence levels to make room for packets of higher precedence levels. In certain implementations, the policer also guarantees bandwidth to each level, thus preventing complete loss of lower precedence traffic when there is a large amount of higher precedence traffic.
