  • Publication number: 20070147309
Abstract: Downlink channels within an implementation of a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) system, e.g. a Wideband CDMA system, are allocated to channelisation codes in a primary or secondary code tree, each tree having its own scrambling code. During Compressed Mode (CPM), channels which need reallocation during CPM are reallocated to one of the alternative code trees related to the primary or secondary code trees, depending on their original channelisation code in the primary or secondary code tree.

  • Patent number: 6996081
Abstract: A base station node (28) of a radio access network determines a number of connections that can be added for each of plural spreading factors to the base station node, and sends to a radio network controller (RNC) node (26) a capacity indication (110) including the determined number of connections. In a first message mode of the invention, the capacity indication is included in a conventional 3GPP “Resource Status Indication” message, while in a second message mode the capacity indication is included in a separate supplemental message known as the capacity message. To prepare the capacity indication, the base station tracks actual usage of base station resources for determining the number of connections that can be added to the base station node, and assesses the capability of the base station node to add new connections.

  • Publication number: 20050095989
Abstract: Speed indication device (100) for determining a speed indication signal (410) indicating a speed of a wireless mobile telecommunication device (14) relative to the speed indication device (100), wherein the speed indication device (100) determines the speed indication signal (410) from a sequence of transmit power control commands sent by the wireless mobile telecommunication device (14) to an access point (12) in a wireless telecommunication device (14) to an access point (12) in a wireless telecommunication network for controlling, in use, a transmit power of a radio signal transmitted by the access point (12) to the wireless mobile telecommunication device (14). If the relative speed is found to be above a threshold, the speed may be calculated using a measurement of the Doppler frequency.

  • Patent number: 6799045
Abstract: The present invention provides an inexpensive and effective way to provide reliable cell congestion control. Transmit power control commands issued in the cell are detected, and the reliability of the issued transmit power commands is determined. A condition in the cell, e.g., congestion level, is controlled based on those issued transmit power commands which are determined to be reliable. Reliably issued transmit power control commands include those that are consistent with a corresponding transmit power control decision made by a receiver of the command, assuming the decision is not influenced by a maximum or minimum transmit power level. Those commands that are inconsistent with that decision are deemed unreliable, and therefore, are not considered in controlling the condition of the cell. In a preferred example implementation of the present invention, only reliably issued transmit power control commands are counted, and that count value is used to control the cell condition.

  • Patent number: 6760303
Abstract: A system and corresponding method of controlling switching between different types of channels in a cellular communications system (e.g., wideband CDMA). Timer timeout values (i.e., timer lengths) and/or buffer thresholds, used in determining if and when to switch from one type of channel to another for a given user connection, are chosen and/or dynamically adjusted based upon at least estimated or measured traffic load in a cell in which the user is located.

  • Patent number: 6577875
Abstract: In response to determining that the total uplink (UL) interference in a cell has exceeded a predetermined threshold or value, a base station (BS) instructs a plurality of the mobile stations (MS) currently operating in the cell to reduce their current UL power by a predetermined amount (e.g., value of dB or percentage). Such instruction may override conventional closed loop PC instructions to the mobiles in certain embodiments. In such a manner, the UL power reduction is shared in a fairly equal manner by all mobile stations in the cell and overload can be reduced and/or avoided. Subsequently, mobiles stations moving away from the BS toward the cell border may be permitted to increase their UL power so as to maintain a connection. In certain embodiments, the invention is utilized in the context of a code division multiple access (CDMA) system.
