Patent number: 11980447Abstract: An esophageal deflection device includes an elongate outer tube that has a natural curved deflection at a position that corresponds to a targeted esophagus region for deflection. The outer diameter of the outer tube is substantially matched to an inner diameter of the esophagus to closely contact the esophagus wall, or is at least half of the inner diameter, or is smaller and includes suction ports for drawing the esophagus wall inward. An insertion rod or tube includes a portion that is stiffer than the curved deflection, and slides into the elongate outer tube to straighten the tube and can serve to guide the deflection device into an esophagus. Subsequent withdrawal of the insertion tube or rod will allow the curved deflection to return to its natural shape and deflect the targeted region of the esophagus.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2018Date of Patent: May 14, 2024Assignee: The Regents of the University of CaliforniaInventors: Karcher Morris, Anay Mahesh Pandit, Thomas Savides, Young Seo, Frank Talke, Youyi Fu, Greg Feld, Scott Garner

Patent number: 11979429Abstract: An applet may be downloaded or provided to a web browser when a user visits a site in order to protect data input by the user from being captured by malicious software, such as key loggers. The applet may present a user input field in the web browser and may generate a random sequence of low-level key stroke or mouse click events within the input field when the user enters information, such as a username and/or password. A listening key logger will receive a large amount of random data, whereas the applet will receive and buffer the actual user data that may be communicated to a remote site access by the user.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2023Date of Patent: May 7, 2024Assignee: United Services Automobile Association (USAA)Inventors: Teddy Joseph Edmond Voutour, Michael Frank Morris

Patent number: 11863579Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention generally relate to identity authentication and/or recognition. Some embodiments provide a method for determining when a user may engage in a restricted activity, including engaging in an initial contact with a user via a medium for exchange, receiving a request to engage in an activity, determining an activity trust threshold required for the activity, determining an initial identity trust score for the user, and comparing the initial identity trust score with the activity trust threshold. Based on the comparison, the user is either allowed to engage in the activity, rejected from engaging in the activity, or additional identifying information is collected.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2020Date of Patent: January 2, 2024Assignee: United Services Automobile Association (USAA)Inventors: Debra Casillas, Richard Andrew Davey, Michael Frank Morris, Maland Keith Mortensen, John David Row, Thomas Buckingham, Tammy Sanclemente

Patent number: 11392912Abstract: An image of a check may be presented for payment in a banking system in place of the physical paper check. The check to be deposited can be collected from a depositor using a scanner. A web site, accessed through a depositor's web browser, can be used to drive the process of collecting the check, but in some contexts (e.g., in less popular computing environments, such as those that do not run the most popular operating systems), it is economically infeasible to obtain the certificates that would be used to allow a program executing in the web browser to control the scanner. Thus, a depositor can be instructed to capture and upload images of the check in the form of files, where the image files are then presented for payment through a banking system.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2020Date of Patent: July 19, 2022Assignee: UNITED SERVICES AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION (USAA)Inventors: Jeff Pollack, Michael Frank Morris, Bharat Prasad, Frank Kyle Major, John Weatherman Brady, Ralph Paige Mawyer, Jr., Clint James Reynolds, Kairav Mahesh Shah
