  • Patent number: 4989013
Abstract: A plural frequency antenna includes a plurality of antenna segment pairs, one for each frequency which is to be transmitted. The segment pairs are serially connected to one another and form a conductive path for DC current which charges a capacitor used to fire a strobe lamp mounted on the top of the antenna.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 1989
Date of Patent: January 29, 1991
    Assignee: Litton Systems, Inc.
Inventors: Frank P. Smith, II, Thomas R. Krishan, Hugh P. McAdams, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4980661
Abstract: A diplexer couples a plurality of RF signals and a strobe signal to the antenna of an emergency transmitter buoy. A plurality of filters in the diplexer each pass a preselected signal to the antenna and block other signals from being reflected into the signal sources.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 1989
Date of Patent: December 25, 1990
    Assignee: Litton Systems, Inc.
    Inventor: Frank P. Smith, II
  • Patent number: 4215346
Abstract: A navigational unit having a time-shared mode of operation for handling a plurality of different navigational signals is provided wherein IF components within the unit may have a dual dedication, i.e., used in common for handling all signals while normally present separate front end components and navigational display components may be dedicated exclusively to each separate signal, a central timing and control component coordinating the total operation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 8, 1978
Date of Patent: July 29, 1980
    Assignee: Narco Scientific Industries, Inc.
    Inventor: Frank P. Smith, 2nd.
  • Patent number: 4184157
Abstract: In an information receiving apparatus having a time-shared mode of operation for simultaneously receiving a plurality of information carrying signals, at least one signal of which includes an identification tone superimposed thereupon, a tone reconstitution scheme for providing a continuous tone from a received tone signal which contains absences of tone signal due to the time-shared partial duty dedication of the receiver to that signal and its superimposed tone.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 8, 1978
Date of Patent: January 15, 1980
    Assignee: Narco Scientific, Inc.
    Inventor: Frank P. Smith, 2nd
  • Patent number: 4184158
Abstract: A general aviation navigational receiver is provided with a digital channel selection wherein a channel selection knob on the aircraft control board may be operated to control the functioning of a digitally implemented frequency synthesizer which in turn controls the operation of a voltage controlled oscillator for providing frequency signals to an RF mixer of the unit, the frequency synthesizer being programmed for both possible VOR/LOC and GS channel frequencies wherein switching between frequencies is accomplished in synchronism with the basic clock within the synthesizer greatly reducing transient changeover time.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 8, 1978
Date of Patent: January 15, 1980
    Assignee: Narco Scientific, Inc.
    Inventor: Frank P. Smith, 2nd
  • Patent number: 4061075
Abstract: An automatic weapon with a receiver, a breech block fixedly mounted in the receiver, a barrel reciprocable within the receiver, a spring biasing the barrel, and a gas cylinder chamber externally of the barrel and in communication therewith, whereby upon firing of the weapon, the gases discharged from a cartridge ejected from the barrel, pass into the gas cylinder chamber means to thereby tension the spring.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 7, 1976
Date of Patent: December 6, 1977
